Please give me some slack
The only computer I ever used was a Mac now I am learning to use a PC quite different for me. I will make many mistakes so please don't jump on my case when I don't give you what you want immediately. If you can be kind to say the information is not there, tell me nicely. I started on the the MAC in the late 80's and never used any other computer. This is a big adjustment for me. Please be patient. It is not like I am in my 20's or 30's - I am almost 70 so the change is not that easy.

You young ones need to be patient - I am with you.

one fingered typing reaching a hundred words/minute in some cases....

3. I hear you, Monique!
I started on a PC in the mid 90's. I tried to open my e-mail on a friend's Mac and failed miserably.

Hang in there!

sleepwalking right now so I may not make much sense at all.

11. My dear Monique1...
I can't understand why you switched...

I've only used PC's and I'm very happy with them. There's no way in hell I would ever change. My husband uses Macs and he's sung their praises to me, but to no avail...

Why move away from something you loved?

I'm an old lady too...

12. I'm feeling so bad for you that you have to use a
PC after using a Mac. That's like driving a golf cart when you are used to a car.

15. It got to the point that I could predict when my Mac when need repair
Every year it would cost me almost $300 in repairs so this year I said no more. I bought a PC for 600.00 and have some one who can service it at my home. I really liked the Mac - I said no way for a PC but may be like everything else is time for a change. Actually this is good because the brain will have a challenge, great for the safety of thinking etc. Actually, change will be good for my age also.

18. That's the right way to think about this.
Every time something new comes along technology-wise, that's what I tell myself!

I use both PC and Mac and have no problem going back and forth. You'll get the hang of it!

33. A "bullet" is what printers call the little round dot used at the
beginnings of lines in a list -- on a Mac, you hold down the Apple key and hit "8" and you get a bullet -- I have no idea how to get one on a PC.

42. Using the number pad never crossed my mind
since on my Mac I used the 8 in the top row of keys.

The "Symbols" chart disappeared from my Start Menu during one of Mr. Gates Magic Updates, but I just found my old list from my Dark and Dismal Days of working in (shudder) "Word" --

¶ Alt 20 A pilcrow!!!

§ Alt 21 A section sign!!!

— Alt 0151 An em-dash!!!

• Alt 7 (numpad) works for the bullet.

I always thought "bullet point" referred to the line of text marked with a bullet. I've been wrong before, and will be again.

How illuminating. Thank you.

:)

19. Buying a Mac is very expensive
I really need to be careful with my money as I worry that my pension will either be cut or SS will be cut or dropped.

Mac's are expensive, I do like my Toshiba for 1/2 the price. I do miss my Mac - I knew just what to do.

23. Thanks for the young one
There are days I wake with bounds of energy- there are days I wake with none but that is okay. I'm proud that I moved two weeks ago and my apartment is cleared with boxes and clutter. I am quite settled in at my age.

28. I am one who believes in change
and also a little tough - I'll get the hang of it. I was a manager for 24 yrs, was required to integrate change where I worked. Now change in my personal life - that is okay. Nothing stays the same. I just went through a huge change but that is good for the mind. It will all work out. I just ask for patience while I go through this change. I just look at change as a challenge. I love a challenge at my age also.

31. You'll get the hang of it, Monique! Sorry you had to switch, though.
It won't be hard being patient with someone as tactful as you -- I don't think that'll be a problem for you.

Just recently I had to reboot my computer after trying to save an apparently virus-infected google image. Right after I clicked onto it, one "trojan" message after another appeared on my screen. Yikes!

So now, I've lost some really amazing pictures that I didn't save to my web-sharing account & other great stuff, too. My husband saved all the data before he rebooted it, but it's going to take me longer to sort it all out than it would be for someone younger.

Good luck with your PC!
