Indianapolis police officer shot during traffic stop; in coma

A 29-year-old Indianapolis police officer was fighting for his life today, shot four times -- including twice in the face -- while making a traffic stop about 9 a.m.

Officer David Moore, who joined the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in 2004 was in a coma in critical condition at Wishard Memorial Hospital's intensive care unit.

Dr. Gerardo Gomez, director of the IU/Wishard Level I Trauma Center, said efforts continued to stabilize Moore and that the next 24 to 48 hours would be critical.

... Moore is in a coma as a result of the injury, and while it would be a good sign if he begins to wake up, he likely would then be put in a medically induced coma to keep him quiet until any swelling goes down, Gomez said.
