America is a nation of sheep
We keep buying the bullshit our elected officials shovel out and they keep stabbing us in the back in the name of bipartisanship.

If the appointments of Immelt and Daley haven't sent chills up your spine, than nothing this Administration does will.

The Corporations have won, we are toast.

13. Support for what? If those two appointments don't signify abandonment by OUR party
nothing they do will. Our party stopped being Progressive a long long time ago. Holding onto to the tattered remains of the flag of hope is at best futile.

42. Yep, however
it stopped being my party a long time ago as well.

There certainly some progressives in the Democratic party, and the facists, fundementalists and radicals in the Republican party.

So, if I had to choose,

Where is the Democratic wing of the Democratic party today?

Peace,

36. And THAT is the heart of the problem.
As long as TPTB can keep the national debate confined to the very narrow frame of Democrat vs Republican,
the Status Quo will be maintained.

When the Working Class & The Poor realize we have more in common with each other than we have in common with the Elite Leadership of BOTH political parties, we can demand REAL change.
The Blue Print for this "CHANGE" is in Latin America.
They have shown us how.

Edited on Mon Jan-24-11 11:16 AM by LibDemAlways
One is the FAUX "News" junkie who would follow Hannity and Beck off a cliff.

The other is the apolitical individual who does the bidding of the corporations by sitting like a zombie in front of the tv and filling his house with a bunch of useless crap.

There are of course millions who fall into neither category, but those two are definitely a significant part of the American landscape.

The pendulum will swing back when there's nothing left to cut or steal. Maybe next time around this cycle we'll do better and retain the value of what our society produces, rather than let others come in, pillage us and leave untouched.

This time, however.. not so much.

34. It's a systemic disease-not curable by voting yet.
We go to the polls every couple of years full of hope and send them off with fanfare but our elected officials quickly realize that the dark powers can remove them at will. Not many legislators can survive a full blown attack by the big money corporate interest. So for the most part they have to straddle the fence and be careful not to rile the big corporate dragon. They can rationalize this by knowing the opponents are worse. This is nothing new.

Personally I blame a lot of America's woes on television which as a medium must rely on sound bite and shallow analysis. If you get too complex you lose your audience. However, in their day newspapers were very effective tools for the corporate power. When I was young I was friends with a former one term Congressman named John Barnard.
He was a miner from the Iron Range of Minnesota who was elected as a progressive by labor. When the neutrality vote to keep from shipping any arms to Republican Spain came up he made the mistake of asking for a vote rather than unanimous consent. The papers and radio managed to turn the vote against him and he was gone. He was also blackballed from the mines. Alan Grayson is the latest example of the same thing.

You can pillory Obama all you want, but the fact is if you don't bow to the corporate masters you will be gone. So I think we need to realize where the power lies. Sure my Congressman can always get 80% of the vote in my district as a true progressive, but the next district North re-elected Bachmann. We need to find a way to diminish corporate power outside of the polling booth. A good start would be to ignore the media in my opinion. Read and learn. You will find what you really believe without any help from the media providing false choices.

38. Thank you for demonstrating the perfect way to never get anything done.
When confronted by a powerful enemy, it's vitally important to fracture into as many pieces as possible, so as to be more easily crushed. This is best accomplished by being as insulting as possible to any potential allies who are not sufficiently 'pure'.

</snark>

If you care enough to whine about it, then you should be spending your time doing something about it. Complaining that you have no followers will not get you any.

45. I agree. We can't win.
Obama is not going to save us and neither is any other Democrat.

I keep reminding myself of the PNAC document. The one that said they needed an event of "Pearl Harbor" proportions to make their move.

Well we need the same thing. We are not going to reverse the tide with this one step forward two steps back mentality that is running the Democratic party these days.

We need an event of Pearl Harbor proportions, except in the reverse. We need something huge, a giant shift in thinking for the whole country, maybe for the whole world.

Personally I'm hoping for an alien visitation or invasion.

In the meantime I have decided that the most active I will be in politics is the occasional visit to political sites. I think doing something creative with the time and money I spent all these years on politics is a much more intelligent use of my time. I started playing the guitar and writing music again. Even if no one ever hears what I do I'm at least contributing something good to the universe.
