The big divide in the US is not North/South or even Red State/Blue State, it's urban/rural. Densely populated areas usually go Democrat, sparsely populated areas usually go Republican.

1. I wonder how these maps would look
if we could telecommute all non-labor office-type jobs (such as my drafting job) in the country? I'd think you'd get even more blue in the immediately surrounding areas around cities :)

5. That's because Democrats like to huddle together for the warmth.
The more you live out in the country, the easier it is to pretend other people don't matter.

6. Of course, it would be helpful to have a little information on what is being
shown in the maps. Year? Local Elections? National? One Candidate? Party?

A picture might be worth a thousand words, but words are still worth a lot.

9. This bolsters the argument for increasing the number of seats in the House.

People in urban areas who vote Democrat are under-represented in Congress when compared to those in rural areas.

(I"m setting aside the point made every day on this board that every person who votes for a Congressional Democrat these days is under-represented.)
