What I want to hear from Barack Obama tonight and it's a very simple statement - |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-25-11 10:00 AM by LynneSin
"I will not sign any bill that will make cuts to Social Security."
He says that and I'll be happy to start up my 2012 campaign to re-elect him. If he doesn't then it's going to be a 'Wait and See'.
Mind you, this is for the primaries ONLY. I recognize that if he wins the primaries, he has my vote. But I would campaign with much more enthusiasm for someone who is protecting Social Security.

So you want a bill that does cut Social Security (rather than one that slashes those cuts?). Don't press the "post message" button before you've re-read what you wrote.

23. It wasn't just a grammar issue |
|
The entire meaning was inverted. It was a helpful suggestion, and soon after I made it the OP was able to see the error and change it.
Thanks for calling me a jerk.

Edited on Tue Jan-25-11 10:23 AM by Statistical
The rich cost SS very little and removing them turns it into welfare.
Hell you cut the rich out I might stop supporting SS (an I am not "rich"). Why? If the government can change the rules at the last minute after a lifetime of contribution what is to say it won't happen to more people in the future?
There is no "guarantee" for Social Security. The only guarantee you have is that Congress won't cut it or change it in the future. They start dropping "the rich" to be punitive well that is a vote of no confidence for me.
If that happens I would support a program that lets me opt out. Rather put the 13% into my 401K each year than pay into a system which would change the rules at the last minute.

Seems like the entire political establishment is on board and the money men are pushing hard.
The heavy emphasis on 'getting things done'(anything...) and bipartisanship tells me that we're getting the shaft, the only debate will be about details.

also, imo, it's not his intention. He doesn't take hard lines, and there's nothing to suggest that he'd pick Social Security to take a hard line on.

Recall the hope and optimism ahead of health care reform? Remember the talk of single payer? Then we got what we got.
Now we'd be happy if he doesn't destroy the "third rail" of politics.
A transformational president is what he was called.
How prescient.
