Joe "You Lie" Wilson to be escorted by two Democratic congresswomen
A Republican congressman who unexpectedly participated in President Obama's health care speech in 2009 by heckling the chief executive says he will be flanked by two Democrats on Tuesday night to show his willingness to work with the opposition party.

...

On Monday, Wilson spokesman Neal Patel told CNN that the congressman will be flanked during this year's State of the Union address by Democratic Reps. Susan Davis of California and Madeleine Z. Bordallo of Guam. All three serve on the House Armed Services Committee.

Democratic Senator Mark Udall initiated the idea of mixed seating for the State of the Union. Wilson was invited by the two women to sit in the section traditionally populated by Democrats.

His spokesman said he was "honored" by the overture.

13. despicable little shit
I have the great misfortune to be one of his constituents. He had a ex-Iraq Marine officer run against him. Here is the letter my wife and I sent to Wilson (we did sign it and include an address, but received no reply):

Congressman Wilson:
I remember you remarking on several occasions that it was not only unpatriotic but dangerous to criticize or disrespect a President while our troops were in harm’s way. I cannot imagine why there would be a difference in whether that President was named Obama or Bush. I for one am sick of hearing South Carolina Republicans offering insincere apologies for their indefensible actions. The only honorable thing for you and the Governor to do is resign your seat and let someone else represent the state with dignity and competence.
My wife and I had already sent a contribution to Rob Miller based on your opposition to much-needed health care reform; several other people in my office have indicated they are going to do the same thing after listening to the President lay out a compelling case and witnessing the disgraceful actions of you and your fellow obstructionists.

Cordially,

Wilson actually increased his winning margin over what it had been two years earlier. Being the dean of the delegation, he will probably be treated well by the upcoming re-apportionment.
