NBC: U.S. can't link accused Army private to Assange

Military also denies allegations that Bradley Manning is being mistreated

U.S. military officials tell NBC News that investigators have been unable to make any direct connection between a jailed army private suspected with leaking secret documents and Julian Assange, founder of the whistleblowing website WikiLeaks.

The officials say that while investigators have determined that Manning had allegedly unlawfully downloaded tens of thousands of documents onto his own computer and passed them to an unauthorized person, there is apparently no evidence he passed the files directly to Assange, or had any direct contact with the controversial (eyes) WikiLeaks figure.

1. K&R
Gee, sure wish we had a President who had at one time been a "Constitutional Professor" or something.

- I'm certain he wouldn't allow this ILLEGAL TORTURE to continue to happen, right?

5. I edited it per DU's request, but there's more info at the article. I'm not sure
what they're doing could be construed as illegal, although I have questions about lack of charges. I think I've read, though, that military personnel are exempt from some of our (remaining) civil rights.

6. Actually, a lot of military procedural rights pre-date the Warren and Burger Courts
For example, putting Manning in confinement started a 90-day clock to arraign him on charges. The remedy for failure to meet this requirement is usually dismissal of charges. I'm sure his attorney has brought this to the attention of the Court.

Removing my "welcome to ignore" comment. I overreacted because I disagree vehemently with your opinion, but that's no reason to write you off. Sorry I misjudged you. And now a SINCERE Welcome to DU!

:hi:

9. Yeah, I was just coming back to change my mind and apologize - just because
I don't agree with someone doesn't mean they're assholes. Although sometimes it only takes ONE post to know where the poster is coming from. In this case I overreacted and misinterpreted.

7. So Manning's just involved in garden-variety espionage, then?...
Is he still a heroic whistleblower if he didn't give the thousands of cables that he stole to Wikileaks?
