Political Memorabilia Question |
|
I have a good Friend that was cleaning out some of her deceased parents' keep sakes. She found a letter from John F. Kennedy with a congressional letterhead thanking her father for the work he did in his successful campaign. It is personally signed.
Now, it is undated, but it has to be pre-1953, since Congressman John Kennedy won his Senate seat in 1952. It could also be from his very first Congressional race, which would be 1946 or 1948. It was type written and could very well have the future President's signature, after all, this is well before he became so famous. I know her father was a sign painter and she remembers her father telling stories of how he painted these huge signs for Jack Kennedy before anyone knew who he was.
Could this piece of memorabilia be worth money, or is it just sentimental in value?

1. Depends on the signature |

Secretaries signed a lot of things for presidents back then. The sig would have to be authenticated. If the sig is good, could be worth a good bit of cash!
(don't know if Kennedy signed everything before becoming prez)

2. He was a first term Congressman |
|
and it was a personal letter thanking the Father for his hard work.
Let's assume it is authentic. What's it worth?

4. Two to seven thousand dollars |
|
You can google "JFK signature" and get a lot of results. What I looked at was $2000-$7000 for JFK, but it would have to be authenticated. You could probably get that done for $150 or so.

3. Personally I would say it's priceless. But then again I value JFK and my Daddy. |
|
But still it is a good thing to have it authenticated for future generations who may want to make some bucks out of it.
BTW in front of the entrance to the room dedicated to my mother at the City Senior Center is a poster advertising "The Art Of Walt Disney" which my father helped research and compile. He has a very nice credit. I like it when things happen like that. I love my parents. Jack and Mary. Long dead but still....
