LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A state senator who received only a scolding after leading a deputy sheriff on a chase through two counties says he's sorry for his actions.

Republican Sen. Bruce Holland of Greenwood on Tuesday apologized for speeding after the deputy said Holland led him on a chase Monday that reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour in Perry and Yell counties.

Deputy Ray Byrd told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that he thought Holland was exempt from arrest because of a provision in the state Constitution. The provision exempts lawmakers from some arrests during legislative sessions - but a 2003 attorney general's opinion says lawmakers can be ticketed or arrested for criminal offenses.

Byrd told the newspaper he reached speeds of 110 miles per hour Monday before Holland was stopped.

1. "I was speeding and I made a mistake."
Yeah, right.

"I was speeding through two counties with a sheriff's car with lights and siren on right on my Republican ass."

Yeah, that's it.

2. Makes me wonder why he was fleeing a police cruiser.
What was he hiding? It had to be something to endanger the himself, the cops AND more importantly the public.
:grr:

4. If he'd support high-speed rail, he wouldn't have to drive it ...
while being chased by the cops. ;-)

6. Is the legislature in session? Was Mr. Holland on legislative business?
But as long as he's sorry, I guess it's all good.
