Cop's son settles in sucker-punch attack
WKMG LOCAL 6 NEWS • January 25, 2011

SANFORD -- The attorney for a homeless man who was beaten outside a bar in Sanford while someone recorded the incident said a settlement has been reached with his attacker.

Justin Collison, the son of a Sanford police officer, was formally charged with aggravated battery in the Dec. 4 incident by the state attorney's office on Monday.

A witness captured video that police said shows Collison sucker-punching Sherman Ware in the back of the head outside the Wet Spot Bar in downtown Sanford.

In a news conference Tuesday morning, Ware's attorney, Natalie Jackson, said her client has reached a settlement for an undisclosed amount of money with Collison.

Jackson said Ware decided Collison did not attack him because he was black or homeless.
