Passing Of Tax Bill = Waterloo For Dem Progressives? |
|
That's what you'd think if you read half the threads here on DU.
The tea partiers want their country back; progressives on DU want their Party back. Or, they're thinking of leaving the party or just sitting out the election, or supporting a challenge to Obama that's doomed to fail - or who knows what else.
So what are the plans for progressives who feel shat upon by the president and - from the vote count in the House and Senate - their D reps?

4. Progressives aren't a majority on this country. Neither are tea baggers. |
|
The question is if it is right to implement either of these ideologies on a majority populace that is neither.

Progressives will always exist, and can't be "defeated" as in battle. They will reorganize once again, and work towards House and Senate candidates in 2012 and a presidential in 2016. They will also work on a local/state level. You're going to see the formation of single payer systems in some states. They will continue to fight for Social Security and against Obama's larger plans for that program. In about 15 years, Obama's HCR will become obsolete and progressives will once again fight for health care to be recognized as a fundamental right, and for the government to intercede when appropriate between the insurance companies and health care providers.
