Someone always has to come in last... |
|
Whether it’s a fat population, high rate of STDs or excessive tax rate, it turns out that every state ranks dead last in at least one unsavory category. Rationale and statistics: Most stats taken from http://www.americashealthrankings.org/ and http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/rankings.html (unless otherwise noted)... much more.. http://pleated-jeans.com/2011/01/24/the-united-states-of-shame-chart/

Haha, yeah, that's what I was thinking! Kind of surprising too. It's based on the "highest number of library visits per capita." I figured Ohio would get the worst drivers distinction :-P

Maine the dumbest state? The designation is based on SAT scores, but look at the link. The top ranking states are those where only the most competitive college-bound students take the SAT, so they skew the rankings. Maine has the highest rate of participation at 92 percent, so the scores are evened out.

I’ll be the first to admit Ohio is a stretch. It, along with New Mexico, was the hardest to find a last place rank for. This map should certainly be taken as more of a novelty than anything. But you should be proud that Ohio’s shame isn’t quite as excessive as other states!

10. I wish we were the REAL nerdiest state |
|
I'd be proud of it. I'd guess the real nerdiest state is in New England -- I believe Mass. is number 1 in percentage of population with a college degree. Still, I'll take it :)

|
Edited on Wed Jan-26-11 12:37 PM by alphafemale
really?
Is this fatal collisions with moose or Bigfoot's (Bigfeet?) or something?
Or do people just routinely drive off the edge of the earth?

15. this map is confusing... |
|
On one hand Texas reads "high School Education" which is meant to read they are last in having students graduate per capita
Then Louisiana read "Gonorrhea" - Does that mean they are last in cases of Gonorrhea per capita?
No - but that's how it reads
many other examples of this confusion on this map
