Larry King interviewed Poppy Bush and talked about drugs in a subjective manner off-air.
It's one of my favorite Larry King moments, Larry's talking to then-president George H.W. Bush about drugs. They're off-air, but the satellite feed is picking up their conversation. At the time, Poppy was about four days away from losing his re-election bid. From the documentary "Spin," the discussion begins at about the 48-min. mark:

George H.W. Bush - "You mean for sleeping or decongestant? Great."[/b>

"Spin" by Brian Springer, BTW, is an outstanding view behind the facade of the television screen and the characters it portrays.
Its perspective is scarier than most any movie I know.

1. Poppy Bush, as Ronnie Reagan's VP, was on the front line of the War on Drugs.
A big, white line it was: The South Florida Drug Force

3. Yep. The segment in question was grabbed during the 1992 campaign.
Poppy opens up his heart to Larry, re Halcion and its abilities as a sleeping aid at about the 48-minute mark.

5. The segment on Larry Agran was very illuminating.
His platform would have totally threatened the whole power structure. It's no wonder Big Media and the Democratic Party had to make him invisible. As a lifelong student of politics, I can't even remember him as a candidate during the '92 elections...I guess the shunning of Agren was quite effective.
Thanks, as always, for the threads, Octafish.

12. Pat comes across as, uh, maleable.

Which is why I'd like to hear his flak's spin on the Drunken Deserter of Korea.

School Boards etc. Especially these days where we're seeing the fruition of that sad strategy.

10. Agran was given short shrift.
And he was the most liberal, progressive and from the Democratic-wing-of-the-Democratic-Party of the lot. Odd, how that's the guy or gal who always seems to get shunned and marginalized during the horse races.

I believe Mr. Agran's still in public service, as a member of the City Council of Irvine, California.

PS: You are most welcome, Never ever Old and In the Way.

11. The guy sounds like an enemy of the state.
If we define "state" as "War Party." From the Center for Public Integrity:

What made you decide to run for president in ’92?

Well, it was pretty obvious to me that with the Cold War coming to an end, there was a tremendous opportunity to redirect national resources away from Cold War military spending and to capitalize on the so-called peace dividend and investing $100 billion a year or more in uplifting conditions in our cities and towns across the country in terms of transportation, education, urban renewal, and all manner of projects that would have tremendously improved the country had we taken that course in the 1990s.

6. The documentary that woke up the media to the need for encoded signaling
Well, that might be an exaggeration, but that certainly was the sequence of events.

I agree it is an important movie and I've dropped more jaws with it than I care to remember.

13. Everyone gets knocked down a notch or two or three.
In my case, I'd come across with clay feet melting in the slushizzle.

The media -- and by extension, the state -- have taken away our ability to see what's really going on inside our leaders' "minds" when the cameras -- by extension, us, as in "We the People" -- are not watching.

Ho hum. The picture was far more disgusting than seeing how sausage gets made.

16. And, at that very moment, the enormous asteroid hit, wiping out all life on the planet...
...and, even though President Obama, who at first offered to personally diflect the enormous asteroid, suddenly was saddened when he remembered he himself was the one who had canceled the civilian manned space program.

When was the last time a Have-More failed a drug test?

Hey, Rex! Whatever did happen to the James Bath feller?
