In what area does your state rank the WORST? |
|
Tired of being depressed for national reasons? Now you can go local! Andrew Sullivan's map of what's "worst" in each state. I can't figure out how to post this: http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/.a/6a00d83451c45669e20147e1f50731970b-popup

I'm not sure what that means. Does it mean we have the most robberies, or does it mean that we have the most unsuccessful robberies (robbers are "worst" at it)? Or does it mean something else?
I'm not going to lose sleep. We've only lived here for 6 1/2 years. But we haven't been robbed yet. (Oh, damn! Knock on wood! Knock on wood!). At least we don't live in Washington. But god, my daughter does, and I am concerned!!

use more or SHOULD? ;) Maybe those Aspen types are wasting too much--very 'bad' cocaine use? LOL
I noted Utah listed at "worst" at "pornography use".... So those Mormons are over or under-indulging? (I'm guessing the former)

everyone thinks of alligators, but we Floridians know the real menace... http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/otter-suspected-in-attacks-west-of-boca-raton-1081961.html
When Allan Kellock first heard about an otter attack near his community west of Boca Raton, he thought it was a joke.
He said otters are frequent visitors in the Lakes of Boca Raton, and residents often enjoy watching them play in the water.
But when he heard that the count had risen to three people being attacked by a possibly rabid otter, he changed his tune.
"People have begun to take it more seriously now," he said.

"The analysis is based on seven criteria: the proportion of consumers in each state who have purchased carbon offsets, organic foods, renewable power, and hybrid vehicles and those who compost, reuse grocery bags, and donate money to environmental groups."
From a source cited by the distributors of the map...

since housing prices have tanked, we seem to be having an unusual number of fires in the city, of the complete burn-out type, and a large percentage of our housing is cheap crappy rentals....insurance claims might be preferable right now, as taxes have continued to climb.
On edit: Yes, and quite a few have been determined to be arsons.

23. I lived there: they don't have the worst drivers; they DO have ... |
|
the worst traffic management of anywhere I've seen. Four-way stops don't exist, so people have to play a game of "let the car make the left turn from the unregulated interesection" game. If you see someone slow down and flash their lights at you, it means (possibly) that they're taking pity on you and letting you make a turn. Let's not mention the roundabouts. Or the lack of street signs. Or the roads carved out along cowpaths that connect like a bowl of spaghetti. Driving in the Boston area requires a good number of acts of faith, and reliance on the kindness of strangers. It doesn't always work.
So I repeat. I did not find the drivers any worse than other places I've lived at all. But the roads and signage and traffic controls really sucked.
