A Statement from ANONYMOUS - 17/12/2010
A Statement from ANONYMOUS - 17/12/2010

CITIZENS OF THE WORLD,

We, the people, are ANONYMOUS and this is our declaration of existence.

We are you, and you are us. We are the masses, and the masses are us. But now … the masses - just as the world itself - have become globalized.

ANONYMOUS is the physical entity of the hivemind. It is a global consciousness, based on common sense and the belief that people actually are able to make decisions about their own life.

The powerbrokers and private companies of this world wanted globalization. We, the people, can give them that, but not in the form of financial globalization. Instead, we want cultural globalization. For the first time in history, this is actually possible.

It is possible because we live in an era where information can be free, where freedom of speech can be achieved. Radical transparent democracy is our goal.

In a world where people lose more and more of their rights every day, technological achievements and IT-literacy gave us the means to be one step ahead on those who take these rights away from us. We, the people, have the tools now to fight for our freedom.

For the first time in history, we, the people, have the power to establish true democracy. Democracy means that the people rule the word. Anything that does not adhere to that definition, is not true democracy.

Fewer and fewer countries are being ruled by the people. These countries build an illusion of democracy, by allowing their populace to vote every so many years. The people are no longer contented with this false democracy.

The people are fed up with being suppressed and having their rights taken away in the name of “safety”, “disarming terrorism”, or “preventing child pornography”. No one is safe in a world without rights.

As Thomas Jefferson said in his notes to Carrington: “The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or a newspaper without government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But it should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them.”

With regard to this, we, the people, would like to add that free speech should remain free - regardless of the medium that is being used.

The spirit of repression and resistance following the latest Wikileaks event shows the global powerbroker’s insatiable appetite to do everything they can to preserve their power, often behind closed doors. Responsible citizens around the world should decide now whether they want to rely on those who believe the world is safer if the public is kept in ignorance, or on advocates of freedom of speech and transparency like ANONYMOUS and Wikileaks.

We, ANONYMOUS, the people, applaud once again what Thomas Jefferson said: “No country can preserve its liberties as long if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance.”

We are fed up with unaccountable institutions and private companies deciding our future. They forgot what the future is. We know - for we are the future.

Laws mean nothing to those not in possession of power. Lies are spreading like a virus. Political systems and false ideologies - behind which lay the same people and the same goals - fall apart day by day.

The goals of corporations and bankers is not to defend or in any way further your rights. Your vote is meaningless in a world where democracy is a joke.

The bigger the crime, the less the punishment. Those who rob, pollute, poison, kill and take away your freedom are rewarded for their actions. They are considered successful. They try to make you want to be as ruthless, as inhuman and as atomist as those who are characterized as “successful” are. But they are only a few and we are many.

They believe they have convinced you that division empowers you. They know they have failed miserably. Their lies have collapsed. All they did was gather the planets’ wealth while you were blinded by the shinnies they left behind. And perhaps you were blinded for a short while. However, the game is over for them. We are individuals, but we are ALL individuals and that means we are all one and the same.

If no one protects our interests, then we, the people, will protect our interests. For we are not brain dead like they expect us to be. For we believe in society. We believe in ourselves and we believe in you.

We, ANONYMOUS, the people, are always one step ahead. Because we are young, alive and intelligent. Their corporate corpses may try to stop us, but they are afraid of us.

We, ANONYMOUS, the people, can win back our basic rights - and we will try until we have succeeded. For true democracy.

Please take up your personal responsibility and join the hive!

WE ARE ANONYMOUS

ANONYMOUS DOES NOT EXIST

YOU ARE ANONYMOUS

NOW ACT

3. Sounds like a hoot. Direct Action Gets Satisfaction
I only hate that virtual wrenches are taking the place of metal wrenches.

And as Forest Gump says "and that is all I have to say about that".

11. I'm not.
After the first two releases got widespread attention, there's been a lot of copycat "voices of Anonymous" out there.

That's one of the reasons I don't think Anon is sustainable as a long-term movement. There's no message control; anyone who feels like posting anything on the internet is as much Anon as anyone else. There's no leadership; there's no consensus. It's anarchy in action, and anarchy is not a sustainable system in any environment.

16. OK, point by point...
"There's no leadership"

You are 100% correct. But that is what makes Anonymous particularly intractable, and utterly beyond the control of any entity that would try to oppose it. I assume you're familiar with the myth of the Hydra; each head that was severed would spawn two more, thus making the Hydra an especially daunting foe. But what about a metaphorical Hydra that has no head? How do you even begin to destroy something if there is no overt target to destroy?

"there's no consensus."

Ah, perhaps not in the long term, however, there is consensus in the short term sufficient to produce some fairly amazing results. Think of Anonymous like a flock of birds. Each bird is just a bird, it's not as if any bird leads the rest, or that any bird is necessarily what defines the flock as a whole. They're only a flock as long as they're flying in the same direction. Birds may peel off, birds may join, some may get eaten by predators, etc. But as long as there is a critical mass of birds flying in the same direction, moving in unison, we would look at that collective and call it a flock.

That is precisely the way that Anonymous works. They are a flock of very angst-ridden, incredibly intelligent and talented, and currently very pissed off people who spontaneously make common cause, and use their collective power to accomplish what they set out to accomplish. Sometimes they try to engender social change, e.g. Wikileaks or Scientology, sometimes they just do it for the lulz, e.g. Jessi Slaughter or other examples too numerous to list. But regardless, I would hardly call their ethos anarchic. The absence of a cohesive system of belief or philosophy doesn't make the movement anarchic, per se, but it does make it impossible to predict with any accuracy what issues will cause Anonymous to make common cause and fuck shit up.

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.
See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly.

Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday.
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob.

I guess all that time listening to The Beatles in my youth wasn't wasted after all.
