Wal-Mart Stores Inc. recalled about 2.2 million electric heaters Thursday after receiving reports of burn injuries and property damage from fire.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of "Flow Pro," "Airtech," "Aloha Breeze" and "Comfort Essentials" heaters sold at Walmart stores nationwide from December 2001 to October 2009.

The heaters can malfunction and cause overheating, smoking, burning, melting and fire. Wal-Mart has received 21 reports of incidents, it said. Those included 11 reports of property damage beyond the heater, and four injuries. Three people needed medical care for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

The 1,500-watt heaters sold for about $18 and have model number 1013 on a label on the back panel.

For more information, contact the company at 800-925-6278 or www.walmart.com.

Please kick this so others can see it!

3. perhaps it is the only price the poor can afford?
Oh yeah -- we expect people to pull cash out of their ass in order to buy more *upscale* products. :sarcasm:

5. They make billions in profits by gypping their customers and workers...
Is is too much to ask that they sell reliable products?

6. I posted this so people could get the word out to folks who've already purchased the POS
I wish I was in the position to dictate to Walmart about their products. I can't. But I can certainly let people know when the crap is DANGEROUS.

9. Walmart's products have been proven shoddy and dangerous MANY times over in the past few years.
Buyer beware.

10. And for the poor who can't afford a heater over $18, what will you have then do?
Your op didn't speak about what any particular company was selling or their business practices but rather blamed the consumers of the product by querying - "just what the fuck kind of quality does one expect in a heater for $18?"

So. What will you have the poor do?
