Virginia lawmaker proposes castration for sex offenders
Virginia lawmaker proposes castration for sex offenders

A Republican Senator from Virginia has proposed a bill to offset the increasing cost of housing sex offenders by castrating them.

Senator Emmett Hanger’s bill requires the state of Virginia study the use of castration as an approved method of punishment for violent sexual predators. The bill was vetoed four years ago, but this year it has a little more support because financially, the amount of money it could save is significant.

The bill does not cover all of the crimes that may be punishable by castration, rather it requires a study to see which crimes would qualify.

Currently only 8 states allow for castration, in some form, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures, with Louisiana and Texas allowing for physical castration.

9. It has been tried before and it does not really work. Rape is more about anger and power than
is it about sex.
