MSNBC Eyeing Alec Baldwin for Hosting Duties?
Source: Pop Eater

Now that MSNBC has said goodbye to its top draw, Keith Olbermann, the news network is looking to find a new marquee star for its growing brand, and sources tell me their ultimate wish list is topped by none other than '30 Rock' star Alec Baldwin.

"He's already part of the NBC family, has a huge fan base and is very respected for his long term passions for politics," a network source tells me, adding that Alec is very high, perhaps even No. 1, on the wish lists of MSNBC bigwigs.

Alec, who plays a right-leaning media exec on the hilarious '30 Rock,' has expressed political aspirations before. But his recent discussion with CNN host Eliot Spitzer advanced that position.

"Yes, it's something that I'm very, very interested in," Alec, 52, answered when the governor-turned-host asked if politics was a "game" he wanted to enter. "To quit (acting) now when it really feels good and doing it feels good would be an enormously difficult thing to do. However, I do believe that people want to believe that someone who deeply cares about the middle class ... would like to seek public office."

So, yeah. This would be awesome!

But Jack Donaghy would be dead. It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

1. Not a chance he'll leave 30 Rock now. Maybe in a few years.

17. seems like a step down for him
Not that acting on a weekly comedy is easy, but putting together a 5 night a week news show I think is a lot more work. The potential audience for 30 rock is vastly greater than MSNBC as well. Just seems like he's setting himself up to do more and be seen less. He'd also probably have much less to do the A&E work he does as well.

2. Why would they want an Actor?
Seems to me that cuts into the credibility factor.

10. I'd watch, certainly.
We NEED-NEED-NEED more, more powerful, more prominent, more marquee-level voices and faces on our side, because we are YEARS behind the Pox Noise people and everybody else in the NO-Excellence-in-Broadcasting network who have MORE ready-to-plant seedlings grown and nurtured and schooled and groomed than michelle bachmann has air bubbles where a brain's supposed to be. We have a handful. They have an army. We need some more. Alec Baldwin? Why the hell not? And he's articulate and still pretty damn sexy, plus he gets headlines and lots of attention.

12. As much as I love him on 30 Rock, five nights a week would be much better!
Edited on Wed Jan-26-11 06:43 PM by wishlist
It would be tremendously entertaining to see him roasting the right wing on a nightly basis instead of just hilariosly portraying one on 30 Rock.

15. The big wigs at NBC are so stupid that they probably think
he is a right winger because his character Jack Donaghy is.

He always has interesting things to say about the films he and Robert Osborne show/analyze.

23. Not a very believable rumor
If Olbermann was too prickly for NBC News, there's no chance they'd want Baldwin; he is not temperamentally suited to that kind of gig. Do you remember when he went on Late Night during the Clinton impeachment and "jokingly" suggested hunting down and killing Henry Hyde?
