Palin says she couldn’t get away with crying like Boehner
Source: The Ticket (Yahoo! News Blog)

Sarah Palin, making an appearance on "Good Morning America" as part of her new embrace of the mainstream media, says there's a double standard when it comes to politicians crying in public.

In an interview with interview with Robin Roberts of "GMA," the ex-Alaska governor was asked about incoming House Speaker John Boehner's tendency to get weepy. While Palin said she had "respect" for her fellow Republican's emotional side, she suggested he gets a "pass" because he's a man.

"I don't know if a woman would be given a pass necessarily," Palin said. "That's one of those things where a double standard is applied. I'm sure if I got up there and did a speech, and I started breaking down and cried about how important it is to me that our children and grandchildren are provided great opportunities, I'm sure I would be knocked a little bit for that."

I wonder what Ed Muskie would have thought of this theory.

3. Although, most women wouldnt' get a pass, Sarah Palin would be given a pass.
and her book sales would soar.

The double standard is that Sarah Palin and the rest of the repuke women, are not judged AT ALL the same as ANY democratic women running for or holding office.

15. Yep! She was mocked by the right (and some on the left) for what
Boner does on a daily basis.

25. The dominant coverage was that it showed how much she cared
about her platform and her numbers rebounded significantly.

The fact is that that the far right would mock ANYTHING by us, and I would bet that Palin would be mocked here - just as Boehner is. I don't think there is a double standard on this.

WTF is she talking about? Massive delusions of grandeur.

Clue for you Saruhhh.. You've never won anything except Mayor of a tiny town and Governor of the least populous state, and you freaking QUIT.

13. Nonsense
First of all, I think that in small measure at the right time, it HELPS any politician - showing he/she has a heart. Think of funerals of service men or speaking of a catastrophe. Even if it is about their own future, it is rarely a big negative - and for Hillary was - per many accounts, what helped her rebound in NH.

What is unusual with Boehner is the frequency and the reasons.

20. think of the"Howard Dean Scream":
(from Wikipedia):

_____________________

" ....Dean's loud and awkward public address that night was widely rebroadcast and regarded as a media gaffe that ended his campaign.

Not only are we going to New Hampshire, Tom Harkin, we're going to South Carolina and Oklahoma and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico, and we're going to California and Texas and New York ... And we're going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan, and then we're going to Washington, D.C., to take back the White House! Yeah!!! "

yet Boner and Beck can cry. It's backward world - when "they" do it it's okay.

No rational person believes these bawling politicians anyway.

It's political theater, stage crafted by image consultants.

26. I thought it interesting that she was claiming a double standard
while being unaware, as perhaps you are, of a Democratic candidate whose campaign was ruined for crying in public. Maybe you're reading too much into my username and too little into my comment at the end of the post.

32. Don't agree so fast...she then says the double standard is ok.
"But Palin said it was OK, since double standards only encourage women in politics 'work that much harder' and 'be that much tougher.'"
