Friday Quiz: Guess the Republicans
Edited on Fri Dec-17-10 03:07 PM by sofa king

Good luck. I'll post the answers tomorrow, if anyone cares to take a stab at it. Bonus points for guessing the symbols themselves.

Edit: Republicans

2. A hint.
There are five Republicans in the list. The symbols go from left to right.

I will provide another hint in a few hours.

4. Hint #2
Each of the symbols in the first column corresponds to a personality disorder as described in Axis II, Cluster B of the DSM-IV.

Each candidate appears to meet the criteria for one of the four disorders in Cluster B.

6. Hint #3
Here are two potential answers for line 4, but they are wrong for another, unspoken reason:

Edited on Fri Dec-17-10 05:41 PM by sofa king
Kalyke has unraveled a good part of the board already:

NuclearDem has correctly identified the four disorders. One is Narcissim. One is not in the puzzle.

Oh, and I'm not a psychologist, so I'm probably wrong!

Updated.

Dick Cheney is Line #1

George W. Bush is Line #3

Line #4 is neither Rush Limbaugh nor Bill O'Reilly. Neither appear in the puzzle.

Definitely a pattern of grandiosity, certainly an elitist who was a shill of the rich, and someone who perverted Christianity for his own ends (God told him to invade Iraq)

But by guessing line #2 incorrectly, you pretty much flip line #3, as line #5 is clearly not President Bush. That should reveal some clues about the meaning of the remaining symbols, too.

I'm updating the board on "State of the Game #2."

from DSM-IV but were in DSM-III-R.

I'm going to guess they represent: Sadistic personality disorder - is a pervasive pattern of cruel, demeaning and aggressive behavior.

The female silhouette is: Histrionic personality disorder: pervasive attention-seeking behavior including inappropriate sexual seductiveness and shallow or exaggerated emotions.

The last one is could be Sarah Palin, but I was going to assume that the male/female blended symbol meant either closet homosexual/bisexual (in the case of Republicans) and I don't think Sister Sarah is homosexual - closet or otherwise.

That's all I've got right now.

On edit: the woman is Narcissistic personality disorder.

16. Alright, here's what I'm guessing so far:
Edited on Fri Dec-17-10 06:05 PM by NuclearDem
* Antisocial personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.7): a pervasive disregard for the law and the rights of others.
* Borderline personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.83): extreme "black and white" thinking, instability in relationships, self-image, identity and behavior often leading to self-harm and impulsivity. Borderline personality disorder occurs in 3 times as many females as males <5>
* Histrionic personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.50): pervasive attention-seeking behavior including inappropriate sexual seductiveness and shallow or exaggerated emotions.
* Narcissistic personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.81): a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and a lack of empathy.

Narcissistic is marked by the Broken Image.
Borderline is marked by the Nuclear symbol.
Histrionic is marked by the woman's silhouette.

I think the Nazi symbol represents fascism.
The male/female symbol represents questionable sexual orientation (or maybe misogyny?)
The upside down cross might represent someone who exploits Christianity for their own ends.

I want to say Number 1 is Rush Limbaugh. Instability in relationships marked by several failed marriages, definitely a disregard for the rights of others, definitely narcissistic, and definitely an elitist. Plus, the hint that he's not number 4 for one reason means I'll rule out the third image in the Number 4 row.

Number 2 is Glenn Beck...he's basically Rush Limbaugh but with the Christianity angle.

But as I hinted above, even though Rush fits the equation for line #4, he's not the answer for a particular reason.

38. Last hints
The last two answers are both making moves to run for President.

Bill-O had to buy off allegations of sexual harassment. Rush Limbaugh was caught coming back from the Carribean with condoms in his pocket. Christine O'Donnell made it on a Satanic altar, or something. All of them face:

Leaving only the hardest symbol to decipher, but so simple to understand:

Romney's a Mormon while the rest of potential candidates are Protestant or Catholic.

Newt Gingrich had an affair with a Congressional staffer.
