Spokane: MLK Day Bomb Contained Shrapnel, Rat Poison Chemical
http://www.kxly.com/news/26644110/detail.html

<snip>

SPOKANE, Wash. -- A law enforcement source has confirmed that the bomb found along the route of Spokane’s civil rights march earlier this month contained a chemical found in rat poison and a number of metal projectiles that could have maimed or killed people caught in the blast.

The source confirmed the make-up of the device to CNN Thursday morning and is the most specific information released to date about the bomb, found along the Unity March route on Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.

The pellets would serve as shrapnel that, once the explosive detonated, would be shot out in all directions, potentially maiming and killing people caught in the device’s blast zone.

“This is probably going to go anywhere from one to three hundred feet, and this is going to take out windows, damage cars, any pedestrians in the area is probably injured and maybe even killed,” Former Explosive Disposal Unit commander Al Odenthal said.

3. I don't have a television any more.
HAS THERE BEEN ONE SIGNIFICANT MENTION ON THE TELEVISION NEWS ABOUT THIS???

This is not trivial. Someone knew about explosives. About killing with explosives.

4. Rat poison is a blood thinner. In fact, coumadin was originally a rat poison
They may have been hoping to make shards that contained the blood thinner to lessen the chance of wounds closing and increase fatalities.

6. I don't think it would work. Taken orally, it takes a couple of days for the blood thinning...
effect to kick in. But who says crazies know it all.

10. Post surgery instructions: No asprin for at least 2 days AFTER.
Because it only takes half an hour after ingestion to become effective in the system. That includes thinning the blood. The 7 days is so the aspirin can thin the blood ENOUGH to keep clots from forming easily.

Conceivably pushed into a wound and into the body would be much quicker.

8. Exactly. An otherwise benign injury could be deadly if you can't stop the bleeding.

9. This is not a beginners toy
blood thinner... oy.

300 feet... that is quite a bit of C-4 or whatever explosive they used. I wonder if the bomb house here in San Diego was connected?
