Anyone notice how many talking heads with British accents there have been on TV lately? |
|
I've been drinking and kicking back this evening, so I can't clearly think of all the ones that I've noticed lately by name but I've notice MANY on the cable news stations such as CNN and MSNBC lately.
For me, it came to a boiling point the other day when some older jackass British guy was on MSNBC bashing President Obama up one side and down the other. I sat there thinking: "Who the hell ("Who the Fuck" actually) are you to come on American TV and be so very disrespectful to OUR president."
We are under a British evasion, at least on TV it that is!

It's not like the Brits being hired are very talented. Piers Morgan being the biggest example. Tonight I'll happily watch Gem Shopping Network rather than listen to him yak with the Kardashians. ;)

5. If Sarah Palin had a British accent she'd be president today |

The dumber somebody is, the more profound their words seem when uttered in those tones.

8. Jolly well, no, frankly I haven't old boy. What in the topper has got your snit in it now, ole man? |
|
Ya fargin' bastage, if'n ya caint dwell on the content, then ya have to take a shot at the messenger, is that it, now? Oh, well, says the great soothsayer, sage, and ouija board player, like a la-di-da pooftah! Is that it? Have ya got crumbs in your jammies, too?
It's really hard to get used to, but I keep thinking of Monty Python and then laugh to myself until I throw up! Get this -- Larry King, the King of broadcast interviews for over 25 years was replaced by a bloody Brit!!!
WTF? indeed.

12. My mother mentioned this last weekend |
|
She spends most of her tv time on CNN and the history channel.
Her words:
"Why are all those foreign people on my tv?"
I couldn't give her a good answer so I switched the tv over to the NFC championship game... no "foreigners" doing analysis there - good outcome too.
GO PACK!

13. Well this Canadian enjoys it |

Even though I know Piers Morgan is the subject of ridicule here, at least he interjected a few times the other night about the horrid state of the US's health care system and what is good about the NHS. I think it's about time Americans get more of a world view from their news. Kind of surprised people here on DU seem to be against that. You do know that a lot of anchors are/were Canadian? It's just we have no accent :P so you can't pick us out of the crowd. Ali Velshi on Cnn is one...

the president is not a god. That kind of 'circle the wagons' mentality every time a citizen of another country dares criticize the President does a disservice to the world. It's not the first time I've seen this attitude, here and on other boards. What Americans have to understand is that the US is the most powerful country in the world, no question and therefore everything your country does, affects the entire fricken world. The President isn't called leader of the free world for nothing. Because we (and I think especially us Canadians) are so affected by (and dependent on) everything the US does, I see no reason why we can't criticize freely. In fact, I think sometimes criticism coming from another angle, instead of a strictly partisan American view, is refreshing. Besides, we don't get a say in the voting booth, but we seem to have to live with those decisions just the same. Critiquing is just our way of voting. Yeah, it sucks that the media seems to bring in all these people to bash the Democratic president, something they didn't do when Bush was in office, but that's your biased media at work.
I personally think the US treats their politicians too much like they are fine china. One good round of question period every day and that would toughen them up! LOL.
