Is anyone watching the American Experience on the My "My Lai" incident? |
|
I'd heard of before, it only vaguely . . . I am speechless

2. I had seen this program before- it is excellent. Hugh Thompson, Jr. was an example of... |

...what every American soldier, seaman, airman should aspire to be.

6. I wish I'd seen it from the beginning |

cause I didn't know who was who, the men interviewed . . . I wonder if one of them was Lt. Cally. The end, the trial part of the documentary just skimmed the surface, and I was so traumatized I had trouble following it. I'm going to have to read up on this. Can anyone recommend a book?

10. Mai Lai was just the tip of the iceberg. Many more incidents just like... |

...it went entirely unreported. They continued in Laos and Cambodia. Similar incidents on a smaller scale have been going on in Afghanistan and Iraq. In between South America has been rife with attrocities committed on communities. Same folk at Langley seem to be in the thick of it every time.

11. It is all in the past. But one thing I have learned over the years. |
|
There is nothing that can keep a people from achieving their independence. We have seen it many times. With my own ancestors the Irish. I have laughed with the Philippinos in Cebu at the mural of the killing of Ferdinand Magellan the Spanish imperialist.
You watch there will be a Kurdistan soon.
Vietnam is in a state of transition. Talk to the people there. Soon they will be a truly democratic people. It is their destiny.
Of course right now their government is corrupt and authoritarian and weird.
