Tracy Morgan: Sarah Palin Is 'Good Masturbation Material'

Tracy Morgan is in hot water again for a controversial joke, this time due to some salacious remarks about former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin.

During "Inside The NBA" on TNT before the Heat-Knicks game, Kenny Smith announced that Morgan was the only person who could settle an argument he and Charles Barkley have "all the time." Tina Fey or Sarah Palin?

After a few laughs and the observation that Morgan "can't get fired," Charles Barkley encouraged Morgan, saying, "Sarah Palin's good looking isn't she?"

Morgan quickly put the discussion to bed with the following comment:

"Now let me tell you something about Sarah Palin man, she's good masturbation material. The glasses and all that? Great masturbation material."

:wtf:

First these folks should have known that Morgan has always been a wildcard with comments. Then seriously why ask a question "Sarah Palin's good looking isn't she?" because no matter what the answer is you're gonna piss off someone. You say "NO" the Tea Party is gonna come out and thrash you. You could say "YES" but perhaps Morgan doesn't like the woman so why encourage it. TNT put him on the spot and Morgan did typical Morgan. TNT deserved it.

And edit note:

If you want to scream 'sexism' you need to point it at the right people. Why are people even asking that question during an NBA show. The show name was "Inside the NBA" not "Who is hotter than whom".

Why the hell are they asking questions like that during a show geared for NBA.

"Sarah Palin's good looking isn't she?"

That's not sexism? Barkley was specifically edging Morgan to say something crass because they probably know he's not a supporter.

19. No outrage from me
My outrage is pointed towards the people who thought it would be cute to play "Who is hotter than whom" on an NBA TV show.

Maybe Morgan said what he said in hopes of getting that whole thing removed from the show. Is the show live? If so I guess there wasn't any choice, but if it's not live then he probably said it in hopes of them not even putting it in the show.

32. Perhaps, but don't worry about Sarah, she'll love the attention.
She will get to cry foul, play the victim, all while simultaneous smiling because this entire line of her own sexual objectification is one she actively promotes.

Its one of the many reasons my wife hates her. I think most women know another woman who is totally incompetent, but who has enough sex appeal to manipulate the men around them to get what they want.

The other point I'd make is that Tracy's comment is in appropriate, but it does one thing that I do like ... it takes her intentional sexual manipulation, and FLIPS it over. The whole point of her "winky winky" nonsense is that her sexuality HIDES just beneath the surface ... its a tease. Tracy's comment strips off (pun not intended) the covering. He exposes the tease by taking the notion of her sexual objectification to its most logical conclusion.

47. Yep...Intelligence and maturity can get a run for its money
when "hawtness", LOL, comes into play...and, to an extent I believe it works with both genders,

although I think women are more predisposed to think with what's between their ears rather than what's between their legs

in decisions of such importance.

Poppy Bush DELIBERATELY picked Dan Quayle because he was good looking

and he thought he'd attract the female vote...During JFK's campaign, many men predicted that

he would win because women would vote for him on the basis of his looks.

When is the last time we had an ugly President?...

I can't remember any after LBJ and he first came into office because of the rules of succession.

So I asked him what he liked about her ... which stopped him cold. He couldn't put his finger on it. He stuttered a bunch, said she was "spunky", and which point my mother in law yelled from the other room ... "He thinks she's cute!!".

Her dad is telling a giant fish story ... mom is rolling her eyes behind him ... and we have to not laugh out loud.

He sees himself as very serious. And in many respects he is, but he is also very self-unaware. So he does an says some crazy things that he thinks are quite serious and well thought out. And he thinks that, given his age, he can't ever be questioned, particularly by his "children" (now in the 40s and 50s) ... but "MAWMAW" can bring him down a peg.

don't think he doesn't know it.

The business of Palin's "objectifying herself" holds SOME water, but not as much as defensive guys want to believe.

The truth is, she's a VERY attractive woman, and, like Obama, all she has to do is smile, and men would be flocking to her

OR, ocnversely, saying she's "aksing for it".....

This is a truth I know from the experience of having men "read" unbelievable

things out of my own smile when I was young and attractive.

53. Ah, but you miss the point.
The issue at hand is this ... other than her sex appeal, what else does Sarah bring to the table? I'd submit, NOTHING.

And that's the difference. There is nothing wrong with being attractive. And yes, at times being attractive will give one an advantage. But the question is whether one brings something more to the table then just their physical attractiveness.

Moreover, does one RELY on their physical attractiveness as the PRIMARY mechanism to get what they want. Obama brings a get deal more to the table that Sarah ever could. Sarah knows her physical attractiveness is her most important attribute, and she uses it as such.

91. No, actually I don't miss the point, I guess
I just don't agree with it in THIS important respect:....You say:

"Sarah "knows her physical attractivenss is her most important attribute, and she uses it as such".

Wait a minute...You do not "know that", and neither do I...She may very WELL think she's competent..We know she's not, but I could imagine "self-awareness" not being her strong point!

So, I'm sorry, that supposition doesn't hold...We would have to know her or hear something that would indicate the truth of your supposition,

and I haven't heard it.

132. The winking demonstrates that she does infact, intend it.
People do not wink by accident, especially during a political debate. It was intentional, and it had a specific purpose.

Here is an article that I think hits this nail on the head.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/oct/04/uselections2008.sarahpalin

A few quotes from the article ...

She is trying to act like a southern belle. She is not acting like someone who could be president of the United States and John McCain is one heart attack away," said Priscilla Glascock, a 26-year-old nurse who is supporting Barack Obama. "The men are going to love it," she sneered.

"She winked at us," Pepper said in disbelief. "All the claims that the media is sexist and the Democrats are being sexist are out the window. The fact that this woman as a vice-presidential candidate stood on national TV and winked at me completely insults me."

137. Of course, she's attractive
and of course, she's going to milk it a little..(I don't think a "wink" is the exactly the equivalent of a striptease) but that is different from saying that "She knows she has no other talents so that is why she is 'using her looks'".

Women and men use their looks on TOP of their ability...The problem is, we see she doesn't have much ability but no one can swear that SHE knows that...

Beyond all that, crude "jokes" that de-humanize her into a "thing" are unacceptable.

147. She is the woman who so many women (like my wife) hate, becasue
she uses sexuality to MASK her intellectual failings.

She may not know much, but she does know how to "use it".

And ... within a few years ... Palin will become Kay Bailey Hutchinson ... a conservative woman who had plenty of experience, but who was too old to get the VP nod from the GOP.

Tracy's comment was inappropriate to be sure ... but Palin is what she is, an unqualified media creation trading on her sex appeal.

Unless you think she has put forward a few meaningful policy positions.

for all the women who have to work so hard to be taken seriously and to be seen as something other than a 'skirt' Palin sets back ALL of us. Worse, the more attractive intelligent women have two strikes against them before they ever open their mouths thanks to the likes of Palin, Bachmann, etc.

153. YUP ... my wife is a "bitch" at work because she calls Bullshit ...
and many of the men around her hate it.

Last year, she called bullshit and was threatened by both her immediate management, and by the men in peer organizations.

She stood firm and after some very tense times (we figured she'd get fired), the executive management saw that she was the only one telling them the truth. Two male up-line managers, and a woman who traded in "pretty" were gone.

I think my wife is a very attractive woman, but she does not ever try to use that. She is all business. And at times, she finds that works against her. But she will not cave in to it.

You want to point fingers at ugly look at the people working TNT's "Inside the NBA" that couldn't think of an NBA question to ask Tracy Morgan during their show.

Essentially the TNT folks decided to play "Who's hot and who's not" with Morgan and he returned with a "I'm so tired of this bullshit" answer.

this was more an overall expression.

it is like so many of these guys. they have a gendre, are brought in outside of that group, and told to go for it. these people learn to rein back or they put foot in mouth.

yes, i guess it was barkley who brought it into play.

morgan that feels repercussion.

moore. with maher. got into the whole male on male talk. moore, a good guy, had to bring obama to a pink tutu. i know why he did it. he was manning up to mahers manhood. so he throws out pink tutu. we called moore on it. just what happens.

I've seen his standup so what he said is of no suprise.

And the guy has worked for Tina Fey for well over a decade with SNL and now 30 Rock. So I suspect he's been asked this question alot the past 2 years and I'm sure he's just overly annoyed with it.

I doubt Morgan would have made that comment if he wasn't put on the spot by the guys on that NBA show, most notably Charles Barkely.

What seems to be the consensus on this thread is that a man fantasizing about a particular woman while masturbating is sexist. As a man, who likes to think I am sensative to feminism and recognizes my sexist tendancies, I don't believe masturbation fantasies, no matter how wierd or disturbing, qualify as sexism.

Morgan was clearly making a joke and pushing the boundaries of good taste. That is his style, and while it works within the context of 30 rock, I don't find his comedic style particularly funny. Still, I'm not sure that the joke itself was sexist.

It's not like he grabbed the mic from those guys from TNT and said that.

THEY ASKED HIM!!

Sure perhaps Morgan should have walked away but I'm guessing he get's asked that question alot and figured if he said something assinine they'd drop the whole bit from the show.

The TNT folks are the ones that wanted to play a game of "Who's hot and who's not", not Tracy Morgan. I'm sure Morgan would have been much happier if he was asked something pertinent to the situation - like who is he cheering on in the NBA or some other basketball related question. Instead Smith & Barkley decided to play a game of "Who's hot and who's not", which makes them just as wretched if not moreso.

If I was TNT I'd fire both of them.

The man was hired to talk about basketball, not judge women. Tracy Morgan is known for his raunching stand-up comedy and Charles Barkley gave him a loaded gun.

The only ignorant person I see here is Barkley and yet everyone wants to give him a free pass. Morgan didn't randomly make that statement he was asked to judge the looks of Sarah Palin and Tina Fey. And I'm sure this isn't the first time he's been asked since he's worked with Fey for probably well over a decade.

I know people who sexualize males. It's talk without substance. And it isn't just men who do it.

Having said that, I'm bowing out of this conversation because I don't really care. It's a comedian being a comedian. Obviously it bothers you much more than it does me. I respect that, so I don't want to argue with you to convince you otherwise. That's not my purpose. My initial response was my reaction to it. It's possible I've been conditioned by society to be numb. It's possible I just didn't find the whole brouhaha something to get angry over. Either way, my reaction is mine. about insult to people, perhaps you should watch your tone. I've been polite to you. You've been very impolite to many in this thread.

But, I suppose, insult only matters when it offends you.

with people who try my patience by insisting

on "the last word" as you seem to be doing.

I did, in fact, respond to you in a tone I thought

not only polite, but caring.

You responded with no appreciation, only further attempts

to continue an argument I CLEARLY was no

longer interested in having.

When people ignore good faith attempts at civility and thoughtfulness

I don't believe they are wise in expecting a lot of consideration.

Beyond that, you'll simply have to remember that Ignore is your friend.

Ciao.

148. Sexism or Sexuality?
Bear with me, because this may be offensive to some.

Is it sexist to admit an attraction to someone else?
Is it sexist to say that they're they type you would masturbate to?

I certainly think it's crude and potentially inappropriate.

If he said her only value is in her looks...
Or that she's only good for sex or masturbation, then that'd be plenty sexist.

I'm open to opinions, but I have had conversations with some who believe any expression of guy-toward-girl sexuality is sexism. And some seem especially offended when the offender is unattractive. That's kinda sexist(;

Ya know, when people ask me the Ginger or MaryAnn thing, I imagine what it'd be like to be in a relationship with that person, before deciding... is that weird? Sexist?

188. I don't feel oppressed at all when someone makes a silly remark
Am I supposed to? I just laugh, especially when it involves an idiot like Palin. Even if it's directed to me. There is nothing more empowering than to laugh at someone who thinks they just said something brilliant.

The far bigger crime is that she was foisted on the public in the first place and we've had risk coming across her whiney voice every time we flip through the channels, no matter how fast we do it.

Stop talking about her and she'll go away. We nearly accomplished it and he had to go make a martyr out of her :eyes: which wouldn't work if people didn't help her to play the role.

It's not a big deal what he said! Really, no one is going to die or be tortured (well, if she re-emerges I take that back) or be thrown in jail, or lose their SS or their job because some guy who I never heard of made a silly remark about a woman who is an embarrassment to this country.

I wish I could be offended but I just can't be, sorry. Not over this. I AM offended over what happened to Gaby Giffords and over our support for dictators, and illegal wars and torture and the possibility of destroying our Social Safety nets for the most vulnerable people in this society. But this, just can't feel the anger, sorry.

183. He'll probably be fired for that and Sarah will get to be a martyr
poor thing.

But putting targets on a female Congresswoman, calling for violence against her even when she ends up having her office door shot at out or a gun dropped at one of her meetings, while talk show hosts cheer it all on? They were just exercising their 1st and 2nd Amend. rights! And anyone who points a finger at THEM, will end up being jailed or lose their job.

It's an upside down world. As a woman, I find the focus on this to be excessively trivial in light of all the other 'language' that passes for being protected by the 1st Amendment these days.

Seriously, as a woman and a public figure, which would YOU rather be subjected to? A remark like that (I'd probably laugh) or the language that Rep. Giffords was subjected to? I'd probably call the police, but it would be a waste of time.

Sarah however, will be able to resurface as a martyr now and that's the only reason why I am mad at him.

We had not heard from her for several days and it was almost safe to go back to watching tv or to surf the net. Shame on him for bringing her back into the public eye, and as a martyr yet :eyes:

Women need to grow up and start focusing on real issues that affect them. If the Women's movement made them all so sensitive, then what good was it? I thought it was supposed to make women strong but everytime I see women running for the smelling salts when a silly remark like this is made, I wonder what it was all about.

186. Sorry you missed my point.
Did anyone lose their jobs for their attacks and violent rhetoric against Rep. Gifford?

What is it about btw? A guy made a lurid remark about a public figure. And she's a woman. I can't really get all that excited about it to be honest. I know how to handle guys who do that in real life. Don't need protection, I can handle it. And don't want them fired either. If we fired everyone for being stupid, the unemployment rate would be triple what it is right now.

187. I didn't miss it
I just don't think it's valid,

Unless, of course, you can tell me how the matter

relates to Rep. Giffords...

Beyond that, we simply disagree and I'm not interested

in discussing it further with you.

Have a nice day.

189. My opinion isn't valid? Okay, that's your prerogative.
I think it is and it's served me very well in real life.

The women's movement was about equality, about women being free to make choices. Some women like guys who talk like that and even though I think it's juvenile, others may not.

If we were to be honest, our reaction to what guys say often depends on who they guy is. Look at President Obama eg. The things he says, like 'offshore drilling is great' that are now acceptable but when Bush said them we were tearing our hair out?

Women now have the right to enjoy whatever turns them on and the freedom to make the decision. Before the women's movement, imagine how a woman who reacted positively to a remark like that would be treated? She'd be called all kinds of names. Now, she can take it however she wishes and depending on how she feels about the guy. Freedom!

Sorry you don't want to discuss what women who have a different viewpoint than yours think of these things.

You have a nice day too. I hope people won't let guys making juvenile remarks distract them from the real problems in this world.

190. Your opinion was simply not well stated
and I gave you the reason why.

I posed a reasonable question to you that you have

not answered, wanting instead,

it seems, to regale me with a lot of blah blah.

Now I'm sorry, but I'm unimpressed

and your time with me is over.

Goodbye and good luck.
