Barack Obama has crossed the Rubicon... |
|
There is no turning back.
He made the decision that he would be above politics. He would do what he thought was best for the country. He would get the most knowledgeable people he could find to help solve the nation's problems, regardless of Party affiliation.
He would seek advice from the "experts" in economics and military affairs. He would not be the far leftist many thought he would be. He would govern from a rational and moderate center, which some believed to be the conservative viewpoint.
No, it would not be wise to end the wars. Terrorism was still a threat to America and America's interests around the world. He would not hesitate to use the military to protect those interests.
No, he would not let the banks collapse. He would protect them at all costs. They were the cornerstone of American capitalism. He would spend whatever they needed to keep them solvent and competitive around the world.
No, he was not a populist. He would try to help the unemployed and the needy as much as he possibly could under the political realities, but they were not his priority.
He could have chosen different folks to advise him on the economy but he didn't. He could have chosen different people to advise on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but he didn't. Because he did not believe as they did.
The President has crossed the bridge and is willing to fight from his present position. He firmly believes he has done the right thing for our country.
History will tell.

the GOP announces it's candidate for 2012.
I don't know if that says more about Obama or the accusers-absolvers.

4. I don't see it as a Rubicon crossing by any means..... |
|
....he has made adjustments in his administration at the midpoint, and this alone shows he is willing to do whatever he feels necessary. That doesn't speak of anything like a point of no return. Especially with the results he has had since he took office! The economic outlook for America in 2011 is very good, considering. HE has brought a nation on the brink to fruition in two years while adding healthcare, some financial reform, and some tax relief. Name any republican who has had such success? Clinton performed a similar feat in the nineties, but although we were in recession when he took office, we were no where close to the impending disaster Obama faced when he took office.
We gotta give the guy his props. What we have witnessed is historical.

7. Anyone who thought he would ever be a 'far leftist' wasn't paying attention |
|
That would have been a big change for him; I don't think he's crossed anything significant recently; certainly nothing you could call a 'Rubicon'.
But he's not 'above politics'; he is, as you say, right in the middle of it.

8. The problem isn't that he isn't as far left as he ran on, |
|
it's that he is too far Right to really fix what needs fixing. It is not hard to find lists of what is wrong and why It is not hard to find lists of what Obama has done and why. It is not hard to find lists of what should have been done and why.
The first two list are a lot closer together in philosophy than the 3rd list.
Economic recovery has to include the working stiffs. So far it has not.
