Gay College Students Vs. Chick-fil-A
Earlier today we mentioned that a group of gay students and allies at Indiana University South Bend's campus successfully petitioned their school to drop Chick-fil-A as a weekly food vendor. The students, upset that Chick-fil-A allows franchises to donate significant amounts of food to anti-gay organizations, as well as the fact that Chick-fil-A's charitable arm has been partnering with some of the fiercest anti-gay organizations in the country, wanted to take a stand to keep homophobia off campus.

They succeeded, and potentially have sent a powerful message to other colleges and universities that have Chick-fil-A chains on school grounds.

In the case of Indiana University South Bend, the students who banded together believed that Chick-fil-A's connections to groups like the Pennsylvania Family Institute, Focus on the Family, the Ruth Institute, and the National Organization for Marriage was enough evidence to show that support for anti-gay politics ran deep within Chick-fil-A's corporate and charitable culture.

Turns out they're not the only college campus taking a good look at Chick-fil-A's politics. Check out the students at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), who are pushing back against their school for plans to open a Chick-fil-A in their Student Union. According to their Facebook page, the group wants to make sure all FGCU students know about Chick-fil-A's ties to anti-gay groups.

3. garden variety christian hate-mongering....
Chick-fil-A used to be known for the evangelical leanings of its founders and management. Same as it ever was.

5. This is a perfect example of why I think businesses shouldn't preach to their customers.

6. Pukes want "gubmint" out of our lives --so corporations can rule with iron fists
This is exactly why the Reputes are dead wrong about the role of government. Companies are run like fascist nations: one person makes the rules and anyone who disagrees is "removed" so how does that sound like anything America would want to be unchecked.

7. Money talks
If Chick-fil-A loses enough of it, their attention just might be gotten. It's happened before to other companies. Your dollar is your vote; cast it wisely.

13. I find anyone that insists on putting pickles in every sandwich are usually the spawn of Satan
Because only Satan would insist on such a wretched thing.

And btw, if you ask for a sandwich with no pickle they just pull the pick out of one already made which means I have a pickled flavor sandwich anyways.

I started boycotting them about 15 years ago just over that!

16. Never tried them ...
more of a burger man here, but I did think it was odd that they were the only place in the mall closed on Sundays (this was before I knew about them).

18. We had a Chik-Fil-A in the cafeteria where I use to work
And I do like Chicken sandwiches but theirs are just yucky. Even their dipping sauses has a high amount of pickle juice in them. I would get their Chicken Fingers but they always seemed soggy on the outside and dried out on the inside.

But I will say that my best friend's daughter loves their peppermint milkshakes. I'll let her slide, she's a good kid (14) and she is very supportive of her male friend (also 14) who just came out of the closet. She won't hang out with anyone who is insultive to him.

11. Young people tend to be intolerant of homophobia. The more corporate
homophobia is exposed, the more it's going to cost the corporations involved. Money talks!

Not to hijack the thread - but does anyone have any idea what's going on with Target?

15. Good for them. I wish our public schools didn't have them
in our cafeterias, either. They are at both our high schools and middle schools and outrageously priced.

17. I haven't been to a Chik in years
when I found out how religious they were. Closed on Sundays and the sign said something about "closed so our employees may practice their religion". Just rubbed me the wrong way.
