Blame Politicians' Lies, Not Apathy
http://www.smirkingchimp.com/thread/ted-rall/33961/blame-politicians-lies-not-apathy-how-obama-helps-murder-our-inner-child

I can't stop thinking about what Obama said about Christina-Taylor Green, the nine-year-old girl shot to death in Tucson.

Christina-Taylor, said the president, saw politics "through the eyes of a child, undimmed by the cynicism or vitriol that we adults all too often take for granted."

:snip:

Obama relies on a deeply flawed assumption: that becoming cynical is an inherent part of growing up.

That's a lie. As American citizens travel the long road from childhood to adulthood to valued members of the AARP, their political system repeatedly lets them down. Cynicism is taught. Optimism is ruthlessly crushed.

1. Where does he say it is "inherent"? "...all too often..." =/= 100% ergo no inherency. nt

2. Have none of them "repeatedly let them(selves) down" by not being active/well-informed enough? nt

3. That article is a perfect example of a false dichotomy. The author says, in effect, "Politicians
should be able to read what's on our minds perfectly and, if they can't/don't, that's their fault, none of ours." Top-down thinking is what got us into this mess.

Damn straight, this system is NOT perfect, it isn't even close, but anyone who thinks a passive-aggressive, immature, un-informed, distracted, in-active populace has had nothing to do with what is wrong with the two parties, including how they finance themselves, is dishonest.
