3. The dynamics are interesting
The military is considered the "voice of the people" as many of the soldiers and NCO's are conscripts serving compulsory terms. The police are part of the political arm and represent the ruling class.

via Twitter, this is what they are chanting. Al Jazeera had video of the tanks with the army smiling and being cheered on.
