Rallies opposing and supporting Sheriff Dupnik planned for today
http://www.kvoa.com/news/rallies-opposing-and-supporting-sheriff-dupnik-planned-for-today/

Those wishing to oust Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik are taking action this afternoon. The Pima County Tea Party Patriots have organized a "Dump Dupnik Rally" at the Pima County Sheriff's Office, claiming Dupnik is no longer fit to be sheriff after controversial statements he made surrounding the Tucson shootings. Meanwhile, Dupnik supporters have also planned a rally at the Sheriff's Office today.

"People tend to poo poo this business about all the vitriol that we hear inflaming the American public by people who make a living off of doing that. That may be free speech, but it's not without consequences," Dupnik said during a news conference hours after the shootings at a Tucson Safeway on January 8th.

Cuevas says she is planning to come support Sheriff Dupnik peacefully and silently. "When I heard that the Tea Partiers were going to protest against Dupnik, and try to have him resign, I'm just against it," Cuevas said.

On the other side of the debate this afternoon, you will find Dan Baltes, a Salt Lake City resident and Executive Director of Americans Against Immigration Amnesty. Baltes is currently leading a recall effort against Sheriff Dupnik, collecting signatures and hoping to get the measure on a ballot.

1. I hope lots of people show up to support him. I would if I was
near enough. He was absolutely right about what he said, especially WHEN he said it. Many people when they first heard about the shooting, believed it was probably prompted by the violent, hateful rhetoric. So he wasn't alone at all.

:kick: for Sheriff Dupnik ~

5. I heard his statement on the radio
and he made no mention of any specific personality. The wing-nuts are the only group that felt singled-out for some reason.

3. Why is a nonresident of the county even allowed to start a recall drive? What business is it of
Baltes?

4. Dupnik supporters outnumber critics at anti-sheriff rally

About 100 people were gathered in front of the Pima County Sheriff's
Department headquarters this afternoon minutes before a planned rally
calling for Sheriff Clarence Dupnik's ouster.

The Pima County Tea Party Patriots are holding a "Dump Dupnik" rally
and have called for Dupnik's resignation.

However, Dupnik supporters outnumbered critics as the crowd formed shortly
after 3 p.m. near the corner of East Benson Highway and East Fair Street.

6. "350 rally outside sheriff's office to voice support and opposition"
http://azstarnet.com/news/local/article_c12443d3-8574-55bb-b6bb-e190057b9660.html

Crowd estimates split the number of people about evenly between those who support the sheriff and those who want him out of office following comments he made linking the Jan. 8 Tucson shooting rampage to vitriol in politics.

The Pima County Tea Party Patriots first announced they were holding the rally to "Dump Dupnik" last week. The group has called for the sheriff to resign because it says he politicized the shootings without evidence and embarrassed the community to a national audience.

That rally prompted those who support the sheriff to show up as well, despite the Pima County Democratic Party chairman's request they avoid a counterdemonstration.

One of those who disagrees with Dupnik is Walt Setzer, who filed paperwork this week to run against Dupnik in 2012. Setzer, who filed to run as a Republican, said he thought someone should run against Dupnik when the sheriff announced last summer that he would not support Arizona's new immigration-enforcement law. Then Dupnik expressed his opinion during the shooting investigation, Setzer, a former U.S marshal and former Border Patrol agent, said he decided to run for office.
