1. Everybody is writing the Egyptian government's epitaph a bit prematurely.
The government will fall when and if it falls. Until then, we shouldn't be assuming anything, particularly after watching the Green Movement in Iran.

4. The same as it is now, because an authoritarian government would still do what it wanted.
And that includes always using weapons more effective than those the people have. Which is why paralyzing the country by street demos is important; as is ultimately drawing the police (apparently already starting) and military to one's side.

Gun fetishists don't tend to understand actual revolutions.

8. Conservatives, above all, do not like change and I am afraid they ....
would use those weapons on those that did go into the streets for change. Make no mistake that if it happened here they would be labeling the protesters as liberals.
Just as I have no doubt that those 20% that make up the far right would have been Tories during the revolution and would have hung Washington the first chance they got.
