ALBANY -- More than 150 University of Albany students marched out of class Thursday to protest funding cuts they say are eroding their education, days before Gov. Andrew Cuomo will deliver a budget proposal that is expected to slash state spending even deeper.
At noon, students rallied on the quad, shouted "Stand up! Walk out," banged pots and pans, and walked to a room inside the Campus Center building, growing in numbers along the way.
Thursday marked the 50th day since organizers told UAlbany President George Philip their demands: to reverse his decision to curb five humanities programs, change the administration's "non-transparent" decision-making process and restore full funding to the SUNY system.
Philip has met with the students, but they said they are dissatisfied with his response.
