6. ever walk into a empty place
that has fox news playing to no one. Retirement homes were he people can't get up to turn the channel... they find their ratings.

It's hard to compare the 3 big cable news because not every cable package carries them on the same tier. Ratings are thus somewhat subjective.

4. KC Star: MSNBC ratings dip without Olbermann
How's MSNBC doing post-Olbermann? The early numbers are down.

Following the sudden departure of the mercurial host of "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" one week ago tonight, "Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell" moved into its place on the schedule. O'Donnell, a former U.S. Senate aide, "West Wing" producer and fill-in host on "Countdown," got his own MSNBC show late last year.

O'Donnell should have benefited from both Monday's show, when weekend media coverage — and the fact that the show was still listed as "Countdown" by most DVRs — drew a crowd to MSNBC. Tuesday's show led into the State of the Union address, which should've helped as well.

Yet ratings sagged for O'Donnell compared with the week before, according to same-day Nielsen figures that Brad Adgate of Horizon Media ran at my request.

7. I'm Surprised & Not Surprised
Surprised it sagged so quickly, as the Star states there was plenty of reason to expect better, but not surprised because KO was a total original and LO is not. I also suspect that many people may have given up watching at 8. I have no interest in LO and haven't since he was so rude to a woman who was trying to explain the facts regarding SS to him. He was filling in for KO and my thought at the time was that KO would've given her a respectful hearing. She was the woman that Alan Simpson sent that dreadful letter to. She knew her onions but LO wasn't having any of it.
