Marines Ready for Egypt Rescue Mission
Edited on Fri Jan-28-11 07:43 PM by kpete
"They're not in the on-deck circle yet. They're kind of getting ready to come out of the dugout."

-- An anonymous U.S. military official, quoted by Time, noting that the two marine warships USS Kearsarge and USS Ponce are stationed in the Red Sea in case they are needed to evacuate American diplomats and citizens currently in Egypt.

.................

Clearly the Cheney/Wolfowitz/Rumsfeld plan for mass regime change in the middle east went something like this:

1. Get the US bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan.

2. Greatly weaken our international standing, destroy our ability to
project power, raise the level of Arab resentment against us and our
puppet regimes, and bankrupt the country.

3. Print dollars to bail us out, thereby stoking massive inflation in
commodities and food prices that spark global riots.

4. Regime change dominos!

It's so brilliant, why didn't we see it ten years ago?

Giving birth to democracy is very untidy.

America can’t stop this revolt. Commentators across the political spectrum can’t seem to keep themselves from implying that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, by their choice of adjectives, can “save” President Mubarak. We must disabuse ourselves of the idea that we can determine how this turns out.

4. Google "MFO" and see how many troops stationed in Sinai. I was stationed there in 90-91, that's
how I know. We in fact had to draft up evacuation plans at that time because there were none in place before the first Gulf War.
We had to scramble to get protective masks and chemical protective clothing in - had none - and had to draw up plans to blow the fuel and ammo stores in place rather than letting them fall into anyone else's hands.

Edited to delete. Not sure I should even have said what I did. Just in case, deleted.
Just trust me on this, they won't be going to Israel.

11. Americans
If I was in danger, I would want my military to come get me, if possible, especially if they cut cell phones and the internet. I would freak.

14. Remember a couple years ago in Beruit? Tourists, business, and counsular staff were evacuated -
A Navy Amphib ship took on American and other international tourists, including Tony Bordain, who was filming "No Reservations - Beruit" there at the time.
He won an Emmy for that show - it covered everything from the beginning of the hostilities to the time he and his crew were evacuated.
And I'm sure there are far more tourists, business and counsular staff members in Egypt than there were in Lebannon.

13. They damn well better be ready
The last thing President Obama needs now is a protracted "hostage" crises. If you aren't flashing back to 1979 and Iran I suggest looking it up.

16. you missed a main point of the Cheney/Wolfowitz/Rumsfeld plan
1. Increase contracts to 'their' contractors to pad their bank accounts. Aka 'loot the treasury'.

I'm not sure they even cared about the other stuff.
