Cleveland man feels Egyptians are demanding rights

CLEVELAND - A local man who taught school in Egypt for 3 years until he returned to his hometown of Cleveland said the violent protests in Egypt were part of the push for civil rights in that country.

Farouq Abdul-Khaliq recently returned from living in Egypt where he was an educator. He said the people in Egypt were pushing for equal rights.

"No different that the issues this country had during the civil rights era," said Abdul-Khaliq.

He said Egyptians did not feel the government of President Hosni Mubarak was moving quickly enough.

Abdul-Khaliq said there was a "caste system" in Egypt, contending many people do not get equal rights. He said President Mubarak, now in office for 30 years, should step aside.

"No one should be in office that long," said Abdul-Khaliq.

1. His insights carry considerable weight...
He is absolutely right about Mubarak.
