Mubarak is a fool
After he fired the Cabinet, he's the only one left to give all the orders. If he tells the army to open fire on the tens of thousands on the street, he alone is responsible and he'll be out of there faster than a Palin hustle for money.

4. The curfew will be key
Edited on Sat Jan-29-11 08:17 AM by malaise
I thought it started at 8.00ET but it's 9.00am. If he orders the army to shoot violators he'll be out of Egypt before night fall. If he leaves the protesters he may have a week or two to pack. Bye Bye Mubarak - even Western media hacks are pushing ElBaradei even though he appears to be a first rate opportunist.

State TV says anyone who violates the curfew will be in danger. I double dare you Mubarak.

No, it's rhetorical.

Are you really so dense as to not understand how that works?

14. Now he appoints his first Vice President in 30 years
Yep he's not only a fool but he's history.

The Intelligence Chief Omar Soliman is now Vice President.
That will just anger the protesters. He's the link man in negotiations between Palestine and Israel.

15. Mubarak has been groomin Soliman and his son Gamal as a successor
for years. This will not likely change anything.

5. You know, because THAT'S what oppressed rioters like: to be flipped off.
I suggest a helicopter for Hosni. Get the eff outta dodge before he gets pureed for his chutzpah.

10. He's Buying Time...
The power here is control of the military. This is a ploy to play for time while those inside that military manuever for changes that are sure to come. This feels more like the Phillipine revolution than that of Iran. While Mubarak heads the government, his control on the military isn't such a sure thing and this move may be a way to get some time for a new military government to form with or without him.
