I'm seriously thinking of immigrating to
Vermont.

Seriously...I am thinking it is probably the MOST progressive state in the union.
Anyone else have any other suggestions?

2. It's one of the whitest states in the union, and one of the least densely populated
No large cities, low crime, and you don't need a permit to carry a concealed, loaded handgun.

7. i'd check out the weather and cost of living before i moved to vermont
Edited on Fri Dec-17-10 05:53 PM by pitohui
there's a reason most folks there get the hell out, isn't there? i've only been there when it's green & pleasant in july but i'm fairly sure there are about 10 months of winter there

what's so progressive about it anyway? i thought it was over run w. libertarian fuckwits, it takes more to be progressive than smoking a lot of weed in my book but maybe i just don't know enough about the place

oh, and as someone says upthread, supposedly it's the great white north w. a buncha guys running around with guns, in my experience, a buncha white rural guys running around with guns just doesn't have quite that progressive attitude you might imagine...an armed society is usu. a society where the rest of us are afraid to say what we think and what we feel...

12. If you haven't lived there or been raised there, then you really don't know what you
are talking about. Its not New Hampshire. We aren't libertarian. We know we need to pay taxes to help one another out. AND with our town meetings, we have the most direct form of democracy I've yet to find in any other state I have lived since moving.

I'd say common sense rules more than idiocy.

22. I love Vermont
and miss it everyday! Lots of great people live there (as well as some idiots). Shumlin will do good things once he gets into office.

Vermont is a state I love.
I could not look upon the peaks of Ascutney,
Killington, Mansfield and Equinox
Without being moved in a way that no other scene could move me.
It was here that I first saw the light of day;
Here I receive my bride;
Here my dead lie,
pillowed on the loving breast of our everlasting hills.
I love Vermont because of her hills and valleys,
Her scenery and invigorating climate,
but most of all because of her indomitable people.
They are a race of pioneers who have almost beggared themselves
to serve others.
If the spirit of liberty should vanish in other parts of the union
and support of our institutions should languish,
It could all be replenished from the generous store held by the people
Of this brave little state of Vermont." -Coolidge

8. Vermont is beautiful and pretty progressive but.................
It is a very expensive state to buy property in. It is expensive to vacation there also. I only take day trips up there.

16. Canada...seriously
I have three kids, 20, 19 and 16, and I think their generation is screwed. The economy seems good in Canada, and Vancouver sounds wonderful!! Also, I LOVE Montreal.

I live near Vermont, and it is a great state. If they would secede, I would definitely move there!

21. Vancouver is really expensive - don't know about the rest of the country. Canada
is awfully appealing too, I admit. But because of Bernie, I'm fantasizing about Vermont. I don't have the money to move anywhere, but in my mind, I'm a traveling fool!
