Social Security will rally progressives
http://www.smirkingchimp.com/thread/brent-budowsky/33977/social-security-will-rally-progressives

My view is: Do not cut Social Security. Do not privatize any part of Social Security. This issue is going to rally progressives throughout the nation, win them support from the 75 to 80 percent of voters who oppose cutting Social Security and become a major disaster for partisan and right-wing Republicans who cannot stop themselves from attacking Social Security.

I would support raising the income level of the Social Security tax, to have wealthy Americans pay a greater share. But beyond this: no.

Republicans want to cut Social Security, attack Social Security or privatize all or part of the program? Great. Make my day. Let the battle begin.

Americans who have already lost value in their retirement programs because of the failures of the private financial system during the latest crash must not be asked to privatize Social Security. This program must not become a windfall for Wall Street and create new risks for retirees.

5. I would not bet on anything anymore
They own all media. Lies and distortions 24 x 7 can really make a difference.
Remember 2 years ago the repugs were thought to be dead? Two years later they got the House.
A well co-ordinated effort based on lies, fear and division could be the end of SS.

7. Nobody has the right
Nobody has the right to steal the fruits of other people's labor.

Social security should be something you can voluntarily sign up to do, not something that is crammed down everyone's neck. That is theft.

9. I keep pounding this one idea
Raise the cap on FICA tax that the employee pays on wages, but make it unlimited on the employer's side. If some bailed-out bank wants to pay their screw-up CEO ten million dollars, let's collect 6.2% of that from the bank, without significantly raising the SS benefit for the fatcat.
