Mubarack is preparing to leave
His new veep is a continuation of the regime. My prediction, Sulei,an will not remain as President either. It is as if oh Porter Goss took over, never mind that our CIA directors have a limited shelf life...this guy has been in and out for over 20 years. Egyptians know this...

2. That's been the question posed -- who would fill the slot? The 'resistance' has
no figurehead to step in, ready to go.

Do you think he's still in the country? Or is he in downtown Seattle at the Four Seasons?

Don't know how much truth there is to that but there ya go.

11. El Baradei or another known but non-government figure could take an interim position.
There is currently a power-vacuum, and all hell is breaking loose. Mubarak is making it worse every hour he claims the presidency.

If a new leader doesn't take over soon, small turf wars will break out and the situation will just get worse.

13. I wonder what he's waiting for. Series. Does he honestly believe he can make it all better?
I think I'd hightail it out of there if I were he.

14. Hubris, I guess. He's been a solitary dictator for 30+years. I imagine one
can get quite disconnected and delusional after holding a position like that for so long.

16. Someone here mentioned that he's *not* a megalomaniac - but that he wants
to leave a good legacy after working for Egypt for all these years.

Well, I think he probably IS a megalomaniac and that he just can't believe that this is a situation he can't control. Even blaming his cabinet! :eyes:

15. Probably waiting for his allies to get under cover. Holding out as long
as he can. The VP is covering for the pres. They want out safely. Families first then leaders one by one.

12. Yes, he's just going to be the interim figure so there won't be a lack of government
during the transition, something that gets very messy. He's a functionary who won't last long and I'm sure he realizes that he'll be replaced sooner rather than later.

Mubarak's sons have arrived at Heathrow, according to the online rumor mill.

I sincerely hope Egypt beats the statistical norm and has a successful revolution this time. It'll give us all hope.

17. The rumor mill has also spoken of dad not being in country
any longer... and nobody knows where he is. Just adding this for completeness sake.
