The most wonderful thing I heard today about Egypt
was a story about people cleaning up the mess. They were out sweeping up the streets.

And how symbolic!

It is my most fervent hope that this is truly an action by the Egyptian people to sweep away the old. To clean up the corruption of the past regime so they can move forward as a free people.

1. I liked the wall of people with arms linked
guarding the entrance to the Cairo Museum after they'd chased out some looters and hooligans.

Never forget that these people were supremely civilized while Europe was full of barbarians painting themselves blue and hitting each other with clubs.

2. exactly!
I would love to see more of this change and shift happening in our world. It begins with us, too, in our own lives...clearing out the us/them mentality and embracing possibilities for real change...
while it can get messy from time to time, and ugly too, I'd still like to think that HUMANS are capable of some extraordinary things when we get together in a movement ;)

thanks for sharing this! great vision to have when thinking about what's going on over there

3. I wish I could rec your post! "clearing out the us/them mentality" !!
That is worthy of its own OP!

:applause:

What I got from those pictures of the protesters kissing the police was "We are all in this together."

4.  I am becoming so impressed with the Egyptian people
that I can only think that there HAS to be a good outcome for them.

Christians protecting Muslims; both protecting the treasures; both taking over with security now that the police are gone.

They don't deserve Mubarak.

6. More important, Mubarak doesn't deserve THEM.
He's not good enough for the people of Egypt. He doesn't deserve to be called their leader.

8. Yep, a huge cognitive dissonance there.
But I really don't care what Mubarak deserves, as long as he returns a lot of the loot he stole, and he rides off into the sunset.

What I do care about, is that the Egyptians get someone they deserve next time.

14. Boy! I agree! They are fueled by hope, not by hatred. Taking care
of their neighborhoods. Acting in concert with their fellow Egyptians to do what is best for ALL. Humbling. Inspirational.

9. They are also doing their own security as
much as they can. It seems they are creating a democracy, government for the people and by the people.

11. That aught to scare the shit out of the corporatists.
And possibly the oil sheiks who control their countries with more money than they could ever spend.

15. I was thinking that today. Where so many countries in this situation
would be rudderless without a "leader", they seem to be doing very well all by themselves. :headbang:

I love these people!

13. The people were also friendly with the military in places. That is a good sign too. We can
only hope we don't see more violence.

16. And the military has been friendly with the people, too. It's working
both ways. They realize they're all in this together.
