Political ramifications if Reid doesn't allow a HCR repeal vote?
I think there MUST be a vote. And the DEMS MUST stick together and vote it down. Refusing to bring it up for a vote screams "chickenshit" and the Repubs would get more advantage than a repeal vote.

In fact... if the Senate votes to repeal and Obama vetoes it I see it as ammo against the Repub Congress-Critters.

1. I agree. Democrats must play this one on the edge to win.
If the senate passes and President Obama vetoes, House democrats will uphold the veto, there is no way that republicans get 2/3 member's votes required for override. In the end, democrats win and at the same time paint republicans as being recalcitrant. Most americans now favor HCR because they have been dealing personally with the benefits for months. A vote to repeal HCR by Brown of Massachusetts, Collins of Maine and Snowe of Maine likely dooms all three when they run for re-election.

2. Why be afraid of this?
By allowing a vote, do we mean a vote for cloture and that is that, or a vote on the substance of the bill? What is the definition of a vote?

In any case, they don't have 60 votes.

No, I take that back. They don't have 50 votes. They would lose either 47-53 or 48-52 if Joe Manchin were to jump ship.

3. Why? The Republicans blocked votes on EVERYTHING
How dare they demand a vote on anything? How dare we give in to their bullshit?

4. because blocking an up/down vote
makes you look bad... will fire up the opposition party and the whole "will of the people" thing.

Bring it up for a vote, it goes down and that's all she wrote.

5. Funny How The Pubs Never Worry About Looking Bad When They Block Votes
How about the dems stop being scairdy cats about 'what may happen' and not give into emotional blackmail?

6. FT
why waste the time? It won't make them look bad and listening to repubs whine about it for two years (as it becomes even more popular. I see letters in my local paper everyday telling about the difference it has made) will only tire the American public into hearing blah, blah, blah...everytime they open their mouths.
