A great example of dishonesty (and stupidity) from the right
This has blown up into a big story here this week. The congressman for MO 5th district, Emanuel Cleaver, posts earmark requests on his website, ALL of them. He posts the requests he considers as well as the ones he does not consider. One of his constituents has requested $48 BILLION from the federal government for a civic improvement project. Cleaver did not even consider the request, but in full disclosure, posted it on his website. The right wing bloggers in MO got ahold of it and spread the story that Cleaver had actually submitted this $48 BILLION earmark. Apparently not a one of them even bothered to check it out to see if Cleaver had actually requested the earmark. Or of they did, they chose to leave that little factoid out of their reporting.

Last March, during the Health Care vote, Cleaver was spit on as he was walking to the capitol to vote. The local right wing bloggers decided this was a lie (in spite of video proof he was indeed spat upon) and have blasted him ever since. Cleaver was recently chosen to head the Black Caucus. So watch out for even more attacks on him.

Full disclosure - I have known Cleaver for 30+ years and believe he is one of the most honorable and dedicated public servants we have in this area. The hate being directed at him is a painful thing to watch.

1. More info:
<skip>

It began Wednesday, when a column by Michael Jensen of Sikeston ran in the Southeast Missourian, asserting that Cleaver proposed a $48 billion earmark for a project called the Epicenter, an urban reclamation project for revitalizing low-income areas in Kansas City's inner city.

The project is one of 127 proposals that were submitted to Cleaver via his website earlier this year for fiscal year 2011 and were posted on the site. But he posts every proposal he receives from constituents, he said, and not those that he actually chooses to send to Congressional appropriations committees.

"I post those that are ridiculous and those that are sound," Cleaver said. "But I have never submitted a request for a $48 billion earmark to do anything. If I ever asked for $48 billion, I would vote against myself. Anybody who asked for that much ought to be removed from Congress. It didn't happen. It didn't almost happen. I've done what I've always done."

5. The psychopaths take what is the strongest and best thing in a candidate and
manipulate it into a liability. They are monsters.

6. That's a great way to put it
I can't believe how evil this is. They are deliberately lying to fire up their base.

They also run a nitwit against Cleaver every two years. This year he got over 40% of the vote. He campaigned on Cleaver's 'lie' about the spitting incident.
