Deadbeats Bush and Gingrich Say "States Better Off Bankrupt"

Not if a state owes you money!

Jeb Bush and Newt Gingrich just published an OpEd in the Los Angeles Times arguing that states would be wise to consider filing bankruptcy to relieve their financial troubles. They cite three states, California, Illinois and New York, while failing to mention the angry elephant in the living room with similar problems, Texas.

Texas faces a $25 billion shortfall for a $95 billion two-year budget. That equals California's 18-month deficit inherited by the recently inaugurated Governor Jerry Brown.

"So why haven't we heard more about Texas, one of the most important economy's in America? Well, it's because it doesn't fit the script. It's a pro-business, lean-spending, no-union state. You can't fit it into a nice storyline, so it's ignored," said Business Insider

1. Unilateral breaking of state contracts
You can probably guess which contracts Jeb and Newt would like states to break, and which ones must be honored no matter what the cost. This is nothing more than yet another tiresome attempt by Republican "thinkers" to figure out how to keep workers from bargaining collectively and getting decent wages and benefits. Neither Bush nor Gingrich have missed a meal for decades, and have no concept of what it's like to work for a living. Why these charlatans are given the time of day in the popular media is beyond me, unless the custodians of our nation's airwaves also have it in for we the people. Maybe it's time for a fresh grant of licenses and revocation of the old ones. Or would that set off a bunch of squalling about governments unilaterally breaking contracts? How ironic would that be?

2. Bankrupty provides the legal opening to renegotiate Pensions,
get rid of unions or at least weaken their power and protect
the elites(paying high taxes).
