Good Grief, not again.

http://www.weather.com/outlook/weather-news/news/articles/expansive-winter-storm-plains-midwest-northeast_2011-01-28

We have no place to put what we have now. Narrow streets, houses close together. Never saw a winter like this before. It never ends. Storm every other day.

1. WOW the Developing storm (coming from the gulf) spells trouble for Richmond
the mountains take any snow storm out of our picture but if it comes from the south we get hammered.

That is amazing.

3. I'll trade you
I live in Florida now. I am sick and tired of starry eyed snowbirds complaining that the temps are 62 degrees and it's too "cold". Live here year round when it gets to 110 heat indexes in the summer! So, it's in the 40s at night and 60s in the day. That is much better than most of the year here. Wimpy old people.

I spent 58 years in New York. Some winter are very cold with a lot of snow, and others are warmer with very little snow. It's really just a cycle of life. Nothing new.

I am moving back this summer. Hate, hate, hate FLORIDA, ALL year.

5. My husband told me he could barely drive around Waterbury (in Connecticut)
for his job (fixing gas meters) because the streets have cars parked on both sides and they are buried in mounds of snow. Basically, the city is now full of one way streets. Same with Bridgeport and New Haven has problems too. We are going to get walloped again Tues/Weds. And CT is having roof collapses too. People are being advised to clear their roofs off.

14. Waterbury seems to be the worst area, per my husband and the local news.
Edited on Sun Jan-30-11 05:19 PM by Jennicut
Took him hours to drive around Waterbury Friday. There just is not any places for people to park so they left their cars there. Now they need to dig out all of these cars and find a place for them to park. Madness. My kids seem to enjoy it but I think everyone else I know in CT has had enough. I know we had a huge blizzard in the late 70's (I was about 3). But I cannot ever remember it this bad before.

22. I remember in the 90s having a winter where I thought the ice on the curb in front
of my house would NEVER melt. I got so depressed that my husband took me to a local Japanese restaurant and I had sukiyaki, which was warming and heartening. It really helped.

8. I saw several large dump trucks hauling snow down Main St
today while I was shoveling. I'm guessing it came from I-95 and they're probably headed to LI Sound with it.

12. Do they really dump it into the Sound?
Years ago, they used to dump snow in NYC in the East River but stopped because of environmental concerns...

16. Good question. I just assumed it was going to the Sound, But
you are quite right - the chemicals they use to melt the ice on the highway can be a problem

10. 72 Degrees & Sunny in West/Central Arkansas today.
Tee Shirts & Shorts for the first time this year
Gentle Breezes, soft and welcome on the winter skin
The chickens are laying,
Saw the first early Jasmine blooms today,
Daffodils are poking up,
Started our early Veggie Seeds (Cauliflower, Broccoli, Cabbage, Spinach, Onion, & Peas)

Loving it.
But we are also scheduled for another Winter blast tomorrow...
nothing like what is predicted for the more northern locations.

We relocated here (Ouachita Mountains) from Minneapolis in 2006.
Sometimes we deeply miss the stark beauty of the Minnesota Winter....
but not today.

Stay warm & safe.

21. Hey, hubby is from Sheboygan! We were there a couple of years ago at his high school
reunion! His dad was assistant superintendent of schools for the city then. We went to that wonderful art museum supported by the Kohler family. What a lovely place! There was some kind of Bratwurst Parade going on, too. It was kinda cool. We still retain a family place in Door County where we go every summer for a couple of weeks...

23. Hi rox63, We're in the same neck of the woods.
Just heard the weatherman on NECN say 'snow starting Tues AM then turning heavy PM into Wed'. 12 to 20 inches.

I hope they are all wrong. Enough is enough.
I feel badly for all you folks in Conn too. It does seem that you have had more than us. Our streets are so bad that you cringe at the thought of someone driving toward you. The piles are so high you can't see around corners and there is no place to put the stuff they plow up either. Snow budgets shot already.

Heck, I feel sorry for anyone who has had enough. Weird weather all around.

24. H2O Man, I'm old too. I think I remember some stormy, nasty
winters when I was a kid but that is such ancient history. That we are getting is the worst I remember. Then again, I'm so old I don't remember too much anyway.

I'll check the larder tomorrow, go to the Library and then hunker down for a few days.

25. I'm in your neck of the woods and yes, enough is enough!
I hate winter (cold and snow) anyway and this is just totally absurd. I'm getting so depressed, feeling trapped in my house. I avoid driving in snowstorms, but even after these storms, the driving situation is not pretty. You can't see over the snowbanks at the intersections, never mind backing out of the driveway, and the roads are so narrow that I'm still avoiding driving as much as possible. And here comes another big fucking storm. I suppose this is one time I don't mind so much being unemployed. I actually have an interview this week--for just a temp job--and it's on Tuesday, when the snow is supposed to start; I've been a nervous wreck about going ever since I saw the latest weather forecast.

I'm not sure, but I think this winter is even worse than 1978. Yes, the Blizzard of '78 was bad, but at least it was just one blizzard. The state shut down for a few days, maybe a week, then we were ok. This shit has been going on for an entire month, and it's already set to continue into the next month. And as you said, where are we going to put all the snow?!! I wish we could fast-forward to spring.
