The Obama Tax Cut is Nothing But Pain For Me
Here is what the Obama Tax Cut means for me.

I live in Missouri and have been out of work for 64 weeks. My benefits ended December 4th. I only collected 40 weeks because I have been working odd jobs all along and managed to make $5500 this year. With unemployment that brings me to $14,500 total. I've refinanced my house, taken out equity and spent the money I saved while working last year to make ends meet. I have two kids.

I have sent out 248 resumes or applications as of today. Today I was told by a sandwich shop they would rather have employees without children. (Are they running secret covert ops or something? No, they just want people without commitments, and they can find them.)

I was told I had exhausted my unemployment benefits even if this passes by the worker at Missouri's benefits department. I'll check again after the first of the year, but as of now, extending unemployment only applies to new unemployed according to the last person I spoke with because I will have been unable to collect for a month by the time they start. I will no longer be counted as unemployed... MADNESS.

Now I find out this raids Social Security, which I have paid into for 25 years, since I started my first job at 15. Great, now I can expect to just keep not working right into my grave.

Finally, my taxes are going UP BECAUSE OF THIS. Yes, it is true. Obama shafted us at the bottom.

So if there is a silver lining, or you are going to make up some crap about the way he proved the teabaggers were hypocrites, you can just stuff that in your stocking and smoke it.

I ALREADY KNEW THEY WERE HYPOCRITES!

I'm still waiting to see what, if anything was gained by this.

1. Sorry you are having it difficult, I hope you find work and comfort.

I agree that what is being done in many systems is not correct, and needs fixing, and hope people in your position can find work.

It use to be that people with families were considered more stable employees, must be connected to 'health care costs' which would be an insurance issue pressure on business.

For many years, having children meant you were less likely to strike, change jobs, or do something that could risk economic support from work. So most employers looked for people with stable families.

If that is changing there may be an intent behind it.

6. For a sandwich shop, the intent is fairly obvious...
They want someone to be pretty much "on call", who can work during their rush times (and just those times), someone who can get by with fewer and less steady hours, someone who won't be out because have to take care of a sick kid, etc. And, of course, if a health insurance plan is involved, kids=expense.

Where before they wanted "reliable", now the fashion is for "flexible".

2. Damn it. This sucks.
I am so sorry about your situation. This sleazy tax deal is horribly unfair.

One of my husband's brothers ran out of unemployment benefits last month. We don't know what's going to happen to him. He's a computer programmer whose work was taken over by cheap foreign labor. The only work he's had recently is stocking shelves at Toys R Us part time for the holiday season.

I've been out of work for 26 months but I couldn't apply for unemployment because I was making almost nothing in the final months before the work ran out. Thank heaven my husband has a job, but money is extremely tight and we have zero savings.

Good luck to you in finding decent work.

3. It is the same all over...
I sometimes think I should just make torches and pitchforks and set up a stand by the highway.

7. Now that's starting to sound like a business...
It would be hilarious to photoshop up a "Riot Store" like the seasonal Halloween stores and do an Onion style press release about them.

hee hee hee, sounds like a Yes Men bit to me.

8. Someone has already told me to sue, but...
I'm not sure how much of my time I want to spend suing campus sandwich shops.

Also, I didn't apply when this guy said that, I figure I'll just keep looking.

I did hear back today that I didn't get the Library jobs I applied for, so there are three more down.

12. That's the thing.
I think it is illegal to discriminate against people for having kids, but realistically, who has time to challenge things like this?

Good luck, sfwriter. Times are tough.
