Good lord, the RW'ers I know have lost their mind (again): Obama has LOST Egypt???
From a FB post just now:

Obama will go down in history as the president who lost Egypt
www.haaretz.com

The street revolts in Tunisia and Egypt show that the United States can do very little to save its friends from the wrath of their citizens.

-----

From Haaretz link:

Obama: Future Egypt gov't must respect the will of the people

U.S. President reiterates importance of universal rights in phone conversations with Netanyahu, Turkey PM Erdogan, Jordan's Abdullah, and U.K. premier Cameron.

http://www.haaretz.com/

I don't know how I can even discuss/argue this with someone who claims that Obama has lost Egypt. WTF? I expect we will see more of this from rush/beck in the next week....

3. And the guy who posted this fought in the first Iraq war, says how much he loves freedom
and will die for it, etc.

And here are people fighting for freedom and he sees it as a loss?? I just don't get it.

8. There's something about sowing the wind and reaping a whirlwind . . .
America has supported an autocratic regime in Egypt for 30 years that now appears to becoming unglued. The ultimate outcome is quite likely to be some sort of Islamist oligarchy on the Iranian model. We've also supported a feckless and autocratic regime in Saudi Arabia for even longer. What if that one comes undone?

And what does this mean to the long-term survival of Israel?

The West will have "lost" these countries by dealing with them cynically and stupidly for the last half-century. There's plenty of guilt to go around.

Or, we could substitute Puerto Rico or the Philippines for our newly lost state.

Because of his 2009 Cairo speech. It didn't seem to take flight but maybe it did.

Egyptians should have the freedoms we enjoy.

The tendency on cable news is always to assume instability is a bad thing. Boosts ratings, I guess.

15. I agree with you regarding this example, but...
Obama will go down as the US president that lost the trust and respect of whatever entity ends up running the show in Egypt, by his lack of any action and complete waffling on the matter. Hell, he lost my respect by his stunning lack of presence and statement to us and having his staff put on the saddest press conference ever. That was completely embarrassing.

God, why isn't Hillary in that office? At least she's decisive and has a set.

19. No one cares about the U.S. anymore.
Bush finished the job of placing the U.S. on the top of the list of the country most people in the world view as a threat to world peace.

People are now taking matters into their own hands, and this moron sitting in his basement is so totally irrelevant to the massive tidal wave of change that is sweeping the planet that you almost have to feel sorry for him.

I think posts like this should be preserved as relics of a time gone by.

The old Cold War policies and the contrived WOT aren't resonating any more with 90% of the people of this world. The game is up. I hope Obama gets on the side of the future, rather than wallow in the brutal past like this pathetic example of what Fox 'News' has done to the brain functions of their average viewers.

Poor guy is a dinosaur, like some of our current leaders, still tilting at old windmills covered in cobwebs while the world moves on to a brighter future where countries, as in Latin America, decide their own destinies.

We are living in very exciting times. I can't wait until the U.S. begins its pushback against the Corporate influences that have so destroyed our democracy.

I get such a feeling of walking into a dusty, old, mold covered room when I read posts from Faux-educated old cold warriors. Terra! I look at them the way you look at an artifact in the Museum of History, fascinated but glad we don't live like that anymore.

22. I am very confused. They say Obama lost Egypt and
yet they are giving Bush credit for the revolt in Egypt. Wasn't this all part of the PNAC plan to bring democracy to the middle east? So it is Obama's fault and it was Bush who made it happen. :wtf:

23. Sounds like they're recycling the "Truman lost China" line from 1949
Conservatives aren't very original in their thinking, so they tend to reuse old tag lines a lot.

http://millercenter.org/president/truman/essays/biography/5

Two months later, on October 1, 1949, Mao declared the founding of the People's Republic of China. With Jiang's forces in full retreat to the island of Formosa, the President and his advisers confronted the firestorm in American politics touched off by the Chinese Communist victory. Republicans in Congress, including a group who wanted to reorient American foreign policy away from Europe and toward Asia, howled that the Truman administration had "lost" China. After Mao and Stalin agreed in early 1950 to a mutual defense treaty, critics of the administration's China policy redoubled their attacks. In this era of the Red Scare—Senator Joseph McCarthy leveled his infamous allegations regarding communists in the State Department in February 1950—the "loss" of China constituted a damning political charge.

For Israel this is a strategic disaster... (potentially)

But RWers will gladly blather on that, not understanding the REGIONAL context.
