A dangerous winter storm
will begin to affect Missouri and Illinois by tomorrow, the National weather service reports. By late week the storm may extend from Oklahoma City to Caribou, Maine.

Chicago was under a blizzard watch late Sunday as portions of the Midwest and Northeast braced for a major storm system that will bring bitter cold and a "long duration" of snow, according to forecasters.

Some of the coldest air of the season will plummet southward and combine with another storm developing over the southern Plains, according to CNN meteorologist Sean Morris.

An intense surface low will develop over north Texas and pull abundant warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico into the frigid Arctic air diving southward into the Plains. The result: blizzard conditions, heavy snow, ice storms and tornadoes.

This storm appears to be another one for the record books.

7. Mexico beckons you! There's hardly an inch of snow to report in...
ten years!

I'm sure you would find a thousand OTHER things to be tired of in Mexico.

Miami, Orlando, Southern Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, no snow there, either.

Freedom is what we have in America, use it!

31. I'm Just north of Boston. Storm one: Last report for Tuesday, 5".
The big one,Tuesday PM and Wednesday will bring another 12 to 20 inches depending on just where you are located within the band of snow. We're in the 20" slot.

Needless to say, we've had it!

41. Me too
We got 8" I think last week. There's still snow stacked up from the storm a couple weeks ago where we got 20", on top of the one right after Christmas where we got 17". Mostly I don't care, because my complex contracts out with plows so I don't have to do much cleanup. But the roads are getting much thinner and it is harder to see down them.

13. I was just on the phone with my sister, who gets lots more
lake effect snow there than we do here. I told her we're supposed to get over 20 inches and asked how much she was going to get. She didn't know, so she turned on her tv and I heard her weather forecast. The woman didn't say how many, but she said "we expect the snow to measure in feet."

14. Which Only Proves That Global Warming Is A Myth
I live in Ohio, which means I get to live with snow being dumped all over the place 6 months out of the year. When I was a kid, we had 4 seasons here in Ohio. Now we have two: Winter and Summer. There's about a one-month transition between each, but generally, you can figure that the snow will start falling (signalling the beginning of Winter) around Halloween and won't stop until around April (with the heaviest snowstorms hitting in February--when I was a kid, February saw snowfall tapering off and temperatures rising to what we used to call "Spring"). Then, by about mid-May, we're talking about 80-90 degree temperatures until September. So don't tell me something isn't up with the seasons around here.

The other ancillary thing I hate about snowstorms is how every right-wing chucklehead you run into uses it as an excuse to snort and scoff about this antiquated notion of Global Warming. "Snow in the winter = no Global Warming, chortle, chortle, snort."

Oh yeah, and until a few years ago, the only real "blizzard" I'd ever seen happened in 1976 (I was 4 years old). Now we've had at least one blizzard blow through here pretty much every year since 2000. And they always seem to come through around Presidents' Day in February.

19. NW PA here, SE of Erie. I was 18 in 1976, and it was very bad, worst I've
ever seen.

Many roads here were one lane with small cut-outs at regular intervals for someone to pull over and let a car coming the other way pass. You had to look straight up to see the sky, seriously.

That blizzard a few weeks ago left us digging out from the porch through snow that, between the snow itself and the drifting, was over eight feet high. My grandson walked up to the roof in his snow shoes.

I also get tired of hearing, "sure there's global warming...tell it to the thermometer", and the many other snide remarks heard from jackasses around here. Willful ignorance is a pet peeve I acquired living here.

Winter and Summer as the only seasons is the truth here. You nailed it. Stay warm! :hi:

28. I Still Remember The Blizzard Of '76 Vividly
I remember waking up in the morning, looking out the big picture window and instead of seeing the tree in our front yard, seeing a huge snow drift as high as the roof. I remember my entire family trying to dig out the driveway (there was another snowdrift almost up to the roof in front of it), and working at it pretty much all day. Then the snowplows came through and deposited a mountain of snow at the end of our driveway, and we had to go back out and dig out from that.

30. Actually, this weather is predicted as part of global warming!
When there is more water in the atmosphere and the poles melt, the weather becomes more unstable for us. Ocean currents change, etc. and both winters and summers will have more energy and extreme weather according to some models. Of course, there's a lot that is still unknown...

work for a few days, but will spend all his time instead trying to get and keep the driveway and sidewalk shoveled out.

I think somebody on their block has a snow blower. I think they might want to bribe said person with some cookies.

And now, here in Mid Missouri they're calling for a coating of ice followed by another foot of snow.

Luckily I don't have to go anywhere.

Same old, same old. Winter's fun as long as the snowblower is working. What I hate is all the flooding these big storms lead to in the spring and summer. When we keep getting hundred year floods every year, it's time to stop calling them hundred year floods.
