Great picture from Chicago
It's on the front page of CNN right now. Maybe they can enter it in our DU picture contest? :)

3. When I was home for the holidays back east...
...it was pretty cold. I was surprised to see little icicles form and stay on things for a few days; they were maybe 3-4 inches long. But those things in the picture above are like snow spikes! I can't even imagine...

4. That is a great picture!
Isn't it cool the way the ice formed at an angle from the blowing wind?

5. About 15 yrs ago, the wind shifted,
and we suffered a serious storm, mid winter, coming in from the east. (Our prevailing weather comes from southwest).

Chicago's lake front suddenly had mountains of snow, ice, gathering on shore. The harder the storm blew, the higher the ice mountains grew.

Finally, weeks later, the melt came. Wow. Natural ice bridges, incredible rainbows, blue skies and white ice, with icy water - it looked like an alien planet.

9. the one i have been using was "sleeping with the fishes"
which when combined with my "burn-out" screensaver...was quite scary looking.. this one is very easy on the eyes.. I haven't seen the ice "burn" yet though:)
