For Egypt the question is not why now? The question is what took so long?
Even with the great portion of our society who are mesmerized by reality TV shows I still doubt Americans would put up with a dictator for 30 years. That is a generation or more. Could you imagine that happening here? I never say never but what do you think the odds are of our citizens allowing that to go on for 30 fucking years here?

Wonder how did Mubarak did it? Were there times of fairly good prosperity for the majority of Egyptians during those 30 years? Must have been or it seems like he would have been gone a long time ago.

1. I know what you are doing.
You are defining the narrative to say a certain person set that spark, or that it was a planned event by some group.

They probably had beer and travel money for many of those years.

they didn't have the likes of Fidel, Raul and Ernesto at hand.

They had nobody to lead them and so now they have led themselves.

3. They've tried before. Twice in 2008

The first was the April 2008 uprising in Mahalla, followed by another one in Borollos, in the north of the country.

In 1989 and 1994, the labor unions tried too but were mercilessly killed.
