The Fox News picture of Iraq labelled as Egypt is a fake
From Huffington Post:

Fox News Can't Find Egypt On A Map? (PICTURE)

Twitter has been abuzz today over an image from Fox News showing a map of the Middle East. What's the hubbub? Well, for starters, the map shows Egypt as being where Iraq should be, and, we guess, some other anonymous other country in Egypt's spot.

But the bigger news is that the image is a fake. It was originally circulated two years ago, presumably to show that Fox News doesn't know where Iraq is on a map.

3. Well with all of the screwups they have, I could believe it. They can't even get
the politicians right regarding a "D" or a "R". Of course they are known to show a "D" under their name if it is a scandal on the republican. Goes to show you their cult audience intelligence.

4. "Just one problem: this image was circulated two years ago, and who knows if it was real or
Photoshopped in the first place."

From the blog where HP got the story.

5. Where's the proof it's fake?
My understanding of it is that it WAS real, it's just not recent (in light of Egypt being in the news as of late).

Unrec'd for lack of proof (other than an anonymous post on Huffpost)...

Great pics, thanks!
They know full well that images stick. And that if you tell a lie loud enough, and often enough - it becomes a truth.

Phuck Phox "news"! How they like the taste of their own medicine?

8. Of course it was, and all the childish 'haruuumphing' about it was not one of the finer hours
around here.

For starters, if you've ever been to an actual TV studio you know that what's "really" behind the announcers/anchors is nothing but a blank green screen: the images you see are superimposed for the viewing audience. "FOX News" - like CNN and MSNBC - simply chooses software written by someone else to project a "map" on the screen. But pointing out the obvious is not nearly as much fun as pretending our ideological opposites are mind-numbingly stupid, and even now some will continue to cling to the "I still think it's real!!!11" meme because they are heavily invested in the latter.

13. HuffPost has been edited and no longer calls map "fake"
... But the bigger news is that the image is, in fact, old news. It was originally circulated two years ago ... So while the map itself may have been a legitimate gaffe on Fox News' part (and not the work of a miscreant with mad Photoshop skills) it's at the very least, an old gaffe ...

32. "But the bigger news is that the image is a fake" was quoted from the article
I see that they have since changed the text of the article.

They have done so without noting that they have made corrections.

That is annoying.

I apologize for posting this thread and for buying into what Huffington Post initially wrote - which is that the image was a fake (their words).

Watching them carry water for Rupert Murdoch is pathetic. Love the RWing talking point...it shows who is and who is not.
