Palin says she couldn’t get away with crying like Boehner

Sarah Palin, making an appearance on "Good Morning America" as part of her new embrace of the mainstream media, says there's a double standard when it comes to politicians crying in public.

In an interview with Robin Roberts of "GMA," the ex-Alaska governor was asked about incoming House Speaker John Boehner's tendency to get weepy. While Palin said she had "respect" for her fellow Republican's emotional side, she suggested he gets a "pass" because he's a man (video courtesy of ABC News):

"I don't know if a woman would be given a pass necessarily. That's one of those things where a double standard is applied. I'm sure if I got up there and did a speech, and I started breaking down and cried about how important it is to me that our children and grandchildren are provided great opportunities, I'm sure I would be knocked a little bit for that."

But Palin said it was OK, since double standards only encourage women in politics "work that much harder" and "be that much tougher."

1. Palin gets away with being painfully stupid so I can't imagine a tear
doing any damage to her.

2. She's right on this one. Women would get skewered if they
kept breakinhg down into tears like Boehner.

5. Yep. It is now mostly women who would probably rather die than be seen crying in public
Used to be the men who had to do that.

I really don't like to be around anyone who can turn on the sob faucet as easily as Beck, Boener and the Bush Boys, though.

10. Yes, Boehner has serious emotional problems.
It's not normal, how he cries at the drop of a hat. Seems this is happening to him more and more, recently, so they're trying to spin it as no big deal.

7. Agreed
I was thinking, 'she's right' when I read your, "...It pains me to say this, but I agree with Caribou Barbie on this one!!..."

Gender still matters...maybe more than ever?

8. I'd say Democrats and women; especially Democratic women couldn't get away with crying.

9. And most people who will now be subject to Mr. Waterworks will be skeptical
of the media's spin on his crying over everything.. Most people expect emotional people to have empathy. The man has none. He cries for taxes for the rich. Its just going to sit wrong with many people and may help to end their reign in the House.
